NEW: Trump Makes Cryptic Social Media Post As Iran Tensions Simmer

Hours after holding a White House situation room meeting on the Iran crisis, President Donald Trump sparked speculation with a cryptic social media post.

The post featured Frank Sinatra singing his hit “My Way” without any further context. The song’s lyrics emphasize personal resolve, independence, and proceeding without apology — “I did it my way” — which sparked online buzz about a potential deeper meaning of the post.

Some interpreted it as a sign of potential escalation in the conflict based on additional lyrics like, “And now, the end is near / And so I face the final curtain…
Regrets, I’ve had a few / But then again, too few to mention.”

While speculation centered on a possible relation to the Iran conflict, the song has long been a favorite of President Trump’s, who has used it on many prominent occasions throughout both terms in office.

At the 2017 inaugural ball, he and First Lady Melania Trump danced to a live rendition during the evening’s celebrations. In January 2021, “My Way” played as Air Force One departed Joint Base Andrews at the conclusion of his first term, with the plane lifting off during the song’s closing lines.

The track has also appeared at various campaign events and rallies over the years.

Saturday’s post follows a number of significant developments in the Iran conflict. On Friday, April 17, Iran stated that the Strait of Hormuz was fully open to commercial vessels. The announcement followed a U.S.-brokered 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, which took effect at midnight and raised expectations of eased maritime traffic through the vital waterway.

Iran’s foreign minister indicated the reopening applied for the duration of the truce period, and shipping interests initially responded with cautious optimism as oil prices plunged.

But on Saturday, the ruling Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) reversed course and reimposed restrictions. Officials accused the United States of failing to lift its blockade of Iranian ports and ships, stating that the strait would not remain open under those conditions.

Iranian Parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and other figures reiterated that continued U.S. measures would prompt closure. In response, Trump confirmed that the American blockade would stay in place until Tehran reached a broader agreement, including commitments on its nuclear program.

Later in the day Saturday, Trump convened a meeting in the White House Situation Room to review the Hormuz situation and the status of U.S.-Iran talks. Participants included Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, according to a report from Axios.

The outlet reported that officials described the session as focused on assessing compliance with existing ceasefires and preparing for possible next steps in negotiations. No immediate policy announcements followed the meeting.

Despite uncertainty, Trump has publicly described conversations with Iranian counterparts as productive while maintaining that the U.S. position on key issues, including the blockade, will not shift absent concrete concessions. No additional talks between the two sides are scheduled as of this report.
