NEW: Trump Revokes Deportation Protections For Another 500K Foreign Nationals
President Donald Trump on Friday moved to revoke temporary protected status — a designation that allows non-citizens to receive legal residency, working papers and an expedited path to citizenship — f0r more than 500,000 non-citizens. The move follows similar declarations that stripped TPS status for millions of foreign nationals from Haiti, Venezuela and other nations.
According to a notice posted by the Department of Homeland Security, categorical parole programs for inadmissible aliens from Cuba, Haiti and Nicaragua, as well as their immediate family members, will be terminated. The programs were rapidly expanded under the Biden Administration, which participated in the direct transport and settling of millions of foreign nationals on U.S. soil.
The foreign nationals affected by the termination were directly flown into the United States by the Biden Administration under a program called CHNV, which was ended shortly after President Trump was sworn in on January 20. According to Biden officials, the move was designed to cut down on illegal immigration at the southern border by providing would-be asylum seekers with direct access to the United States.
This claim appears to have been without merit, however, as encounters along the southern border have plummeted to record lows without any such parole program.
The Nicaraguan, Cuban and Haitian nationals affected by the latest move will have their work permits and deportation protections terminated in late April, 30 days after March 25, according to the DHS memorandum. DHS said it will seek the arrest and deportation of those subject to the policy change if they fail to depart the United States before the 30-day deadline.
DHS further noted that it reserves the right to process foreign nationals who were previously protected by the program before the deadline. Officials stated that those prioritized for detention will be individuals who have failed to apply for another immigration status, such as asylum or a green card.
Officials are encouraging foreign nationals to self-deport through the CBP Home app, which was previously titled CBP One and used to schedule immigration to the United States under the Biden Administration.
“The previous administration lied to America — they allowed more than half a million loosely vetted aliens from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela and their immediate family members to enter the United States through these disastrous parole programs; granted them opportunities to compete for American jobs and undercut American workers; forced civil servants to promote the programs even when fraud was identified, and then blamed Republicans in Congress for the chaos that ensued and the crime that followed,” DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin wrote in a statement.
“The termination of the CHNV parole programs, and the termination of parole for those who exploited it, is a return to common-sense policies, a return to public safety, and a return to America First.

TPS status became a hot-button topic during the 2024 presidential campaign cycle, as the plight of residents in Springfield, Ohio made national headlines. The once quiet Ohio town has become a symbol of the illegal immigration crisis in America after the Biden-Harris Administration dumped more than 20,000 Haitian migrants in the town of 40,000. Residents have complained about pets and wild animals being eaten by the migrants, while car accidents have surged and enrollment in benefits from noncitizens has overrun local hospitals and schools.
Trump has previously moved to revoke TPS protections for more than one-million illegal aliens from Haiti, Venezuela and other nations were thorough vetting is nearly impossible.
