NEW: Trump Turns The Tables On Fani Willis With Devastating Legal Move

President Trump is demanding nearly $6.3 million from Georgia’s Fulton County after the collapse of the criminal case brought against him by District Attorney Fani Willis.

Willis indicted Trump in 2023 under Georgia’s racketeering law, accusing him of illegally trying to overturn the 2020 election. The case later unraveled, and in December 2024 the Georgia Court of Appeals ruled that Willis and her office should be removed entirely because of what it called a “significant appearance of impropriety” tied to her romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade.

The appellate court said the lower court erred by allowing Willis or Wade to step aside rather than disqualifying both. Willis appealed but lost, clearing the way for Trump’s bid to recover legal costs.

Trump’s attorney, Steve Sadow, filed a three-page motion Wednesday seeking $6.3 million in attorney fees and litigation expenses, backed by roughly 200 pages of billing records. The filing cites a Georgia statute that says defendants “shall” be reimbursed when a prosecutor is removed for misconduct and the case is dismissed.

The motion says the law “mandates such recovery when a prosecuting attorney is disqualified due to improper conduct and the case is dismissed” and calls the prosecution a “politically motivated, lengthy investigation.”

“This dismissal paves the way for the award of reasonable attorney fees and litigation expenses,” the filing says.

“Each of the necessary elements have been met: DA Willis was disqualified based upon improper conduct, the criminal case was dismissed, and the criminal case was pending when the statute went into effect. This motion is timely filed,” it adds.

Trump also plans to seek reimbursement for the legal bills of his co-defendants.

“President Trump intends to adopt the motions for attorney fees and costs filed by his co-defendants,” a footnote states. “He will do so in a separate pleading after all such motions are filed.”

The statute cited in the motion says when a prosecutor is “disqualified due to improper conduct on the part of such prosecuting attorney” and the case is later dismissed, “any defendant against whom such charges are dismissed shall be entitled to an award of all reasonable attorney’s fees and costs incurred by the defendant in defending the case.”

Sadow said the case was “rightfully dismissed.”

“In accordance with Georgia law, President Trump has moved the Court to award reasonable attorney fees and costs incurred in his defense of the politically motivated, and now rightfully dismissed case brought by disqualified Fani Willis,” he told Law and Crime.

Sadow acknowledged taxpayers would likely be on the hook but blamed Willis for putting them there.

“Of course, I feel for them. Unfortunately, for them as well, they made the choice for Fani Willis,” he said, according to WAGA-TV.

“Fani Willis brought this politically motivated, ill-fated case. She got disqualified; she lost. And the law says, now her office has to pay for her conduct,” he said.
