NEW: Vance Trolls Dem Senator With ‘Indigenous Peoples’ Day’ Message

U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) didn’t deliver the usual virtue-signaling acknowledgement of “Indigenous People’s Day” on Monday, but Vice President J.D. Vance didn’t let the holiday slip by without reminding her.

The Massachusetts Democrat, whose claims of Native American ancestry have haunted her since her first successful campaign in 2012, has mostly stuck to a tight message about the government shutdown, faithfully parroting her party’s talking points about Republican intransigence and unsympathetic repeal of healthcare subsidies for millions of Americans.

However, even Warren couldn’t ignore President Donald Trump’s ability to secure the release of all remaining Israeli hostages during their turnover on Monday.

“For two excruciating years, I have called for the return of the hostages brutally kidnapped on October 7th and held in Gaza,” she wrote on X.

“Today is a good day. Surviving Israeli hostages are finally home and reuniting with loved ones. I’m thinking of them and their families on this joyful day and praying for their full recovery. I’m also grieving for all those who can’t come home today,” she continued. “Today must also be an important step toward lasting peace in the region — peace for both Israelis and Palestinians. We must end the war in Gaza, surge humanitarian aid, and negotiate a two-state solution now.”

The post made no mention of Trump, but Vance jumped at the opportunity to capitalize on Warren straying off-message for a moment.

“The president told me he did this on Indigenous Peoples Day in honor of you,” he quipped in a quote of Warren’s original post. The joke has been viewed 10.5 million times and been reposted by 28,000 accounts, making it one of the most widely viewed X posts of the week.

The stinging reference calls to mind Trump’s frequent referral to Warren as “Pocahontas” for claiming that her family held Cherokee ancestry when she was accused of lying about her heritage to earn a professorship at Harvard in the 1990s. Warren has since apologized but refused to fully retract her claim.

The three-term lawmaker’s failed presidential campaign stalled after she released a widely mocked video in 2019 claiming that she held Native American ancestry six to 10 generations ago. The move badly backfired, with tribal leaders describing the test as “useless” and Trump using it to mercilessly mock his longtime enemy.

Three months after the test, Warren publicly apologized to the Cherokee Nation for doubling down on her claim. She ended her campaign after finishing third in her home state.

Warren, who is known to spoil for public fights, has so far not responded to Vance’s jab.
