NEW: Videos Appear To Show Kirk Shooter On Roof Of University Building

Footage from the scene of the murder of Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed while hosting a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University, appears to show a gunman dressed in all black positioned on a building overlooking the event venue.

Kirk was shot by a single bullet in the neck about 15 minutes into the event’s question and answer period just after noon local time. Horrific footage shows Kirk slumping mid-sentence while blood poured out of his neck.

The conservative icon was pronounced dead about an hour later.

One video filmed just before the shooting shows at least two attendees questioning why an individual was positioned on a nearby rooftop. “So there’s somebody on the roof right there,” one of the bystanders can be heard saying.

The person on the roof appeared to be dressed in all black as they laid down in a prone position overlooking the venue. “Just saying. He just ran from uh… over… where’s my finger. From over there, ran in. And now he’s right there,” the witness said while motioning from right-to-left.

A building named Sparks Automotive can be seen in the frame, though it is unclear whether the suspected gunman’s rooftop was the same building.

A second video filmed from a building across the other side of the atrium appears to show a person — dressed in all black — darting across what is believed to be the same rooftop from left-to-right.

As of 9:08 p.m. Eastern Time, the gunman is still at-large.

FBI Director Kash Patel previously announced that a suspect was in custody, though that individual was released after submitting to interrogation. “The subject in custody has been released after an interrogation by law enforcement. Our investigation continues and we will continue to release information in interest of transparency,” Patel announced in an X post at 7:59 p.m. Eastern Time.

CNN reported that law enforcement did not recover a weapon from the rooftop, and it is unclear whether they recovered any additional items, including shell casings.

So it sounds like he managed to do his pre -operational planning, find that spot, line it up where he thought his victim would be, take out Kirk with a single bullet, pack up the weapon, maybe break it down, put it into a smaller bag,” CNN’s John Miller reported

“If you get off that roof, you have access right to a parking lot where he could have easily gotten into a car and left. In the video canvas, what we don’t know; did they get a good image of him, or was it just the clothing? Were they able to get a license plate reader of a car leaving that took them to a name?” he continued before adding that a 25-year-old man had been detained as a person of interest.

It is unclear if the released person of interest was who King is referring to, and it is also not currently known whether law enforcement has identified a definitive suspect.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox has referred to the event as a “political assassination” and affirmed that Utah does indeed have the death penalty. “This is a dark day for our state, it’s a tragic day for our nation. And I wanna be very clear that this is a political assassination,” Cox told reporters.

“I just want to remind you, we still have the death penalty here in the state of Utah,” the governor went on to say.

This is a developing story.
