NEW: Wanted Fugitive Who Worked Security For Jasmine Crockett Killed In Police Standoff

A man publicly known as Mike King, who had been wanted on charges of impersonating a law enforcement officer, was shot and killed by Dallas SWAT officers during a standoff on Friday. King, whose real name has not been disclosed by authorities, was reportedly part of the security team for U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX).

King operated a business called Off Duty Police Services, an online platform designed to connect off-duty North Texas police officers with supplemental employment opportunities, similar to services like RollKall. He presented himself as a law enforcement officer to recruit participants for his business, which included assignments at hotels, banks, and other venues.

However, investigations revealed that King was using aliases and had a history of impersonating police. He drove a vehicle styled as an undercover police car, equipped with license plates that had been stolen from vehicles parked outside a military recruiting office. Some Dallas police officers had unknowingly taken jobs through his platform, under the assumption it was legitimate, according to a report from Reuters.

His activities led to outstanding warrants for impersonating a police officer.

On Friday, King was located by the Dallas Police Department’s fugitive unit and fled into the parking garage at Children’s Medical Center, where he proceeded to barricade himself inside a vehicle.

SWAT officers were called to the scene and deployed tear gas to compel him to exit. Upon emerging, King allegedly raised a firearm toward the officers, prompting them to open fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene

King’s association with Rep. Crockett dated back to at least the previous year. He provided security services for the congresswoman during her time in Washington, D.C., and in Texas.

Publicly available photographs and images show King accompanying Crockett during her recent bid for the Democratic Party nomination for U.S. Senate in Texas, which she ultimately lost to James Talarico.

Financial documents indicate that Crockett made payments to an individual named Mike King for security services as recently as 2025. Sources familiar with the matter described King as having a trusted role in her detail, overseeing teams at various locations, including downtown Dallas hotels and his church, according to a report from the New York Post.

It remains unclear how thoroughly background checks were conducted prior to his hiring, or if Crockett’s team was aware of his legal issues at the time.

The congresswoman’s office has not issued a public comment on the shooting as of this report.
