NFL Franchise Gets RIPPED For Partnering With Gay Football League
The Buffalo Bills are facing backlash after announcing their sponsorship of the National Gay Flag Football League (NGFFL) chapter in Buffalo. The league is also backed by other supportive NFL teams like the Giants, Patriots, Jets, Dolphins, Cardinals, Bears, Commanders, and Seahawks. However, the announcement has not been universally well-received.
“We are thrilled to bring inclusive flag football to Buffalo with the support of the Buffalo Bills. This exciting addition joins 27 other cities, and over 4,000 players, including straight allies, in the National Gay Flag Football League,” said NGFFL Commissioner Joel Horton in a press release on Tuesday.
“Our mission is to unite the community through the spirit of competition while celebrating our diversity. By fostering an environment where everyone is welcome, we aim to build a stronger, more inclusive Buffalo. Together, with the backing of the Buffalo Bills, we are creating a space where all individuals can participate, compete, and thrive,” Horton said.
Many took to social media to express their discontent, suggesting that the move created unnecessary segregation in sports. Comments on the Bills’ Instagram post included criticisms like: “Are gay people not allowed to play flag football with straight people? Honest question,” and “The return of segregated football.”

“Everything doesn’t need to be gay,” commented one user, reflecting a sentiment shared by several others. Comments argued that by forming a separate league, the NGFFL is promoting division rather than unity within the football community.
“How do tryouts work? You gotta prove you’re gay?” wrote another. “Doesn’t sound very inclusive,” one comment read.
Other comments included:
- “we’re never winning a SB”
- “This is why we can’t win a Super Bowl. This right here”
- “Why you guys gotta show pride stuff here it has nothing to do with football”
The NGFFL, a non-profit sports organization founded in 2002, aims to promote the positive social and athletic enjoyment of flag football. Despite the mission, the partnership has sparked controversy.
The Bills’ recent 2023 season concluded with a Divisional Round loss in the playoffs. After finishing the regular season with an 11-6 record, their playoff run ended with a defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs, losing 24-27.
While partnering with NGFFL, they have also made significant roster cuts during the offseason to manage their salary cap. Notable players released include safety Jordan Poyer and center Mitch Morse. Additionally, the team cut Pro Bowl cornerback Tre’Davious White and running back Nyheim Hines to clear cap space.
