NFL Superstar Checks Into Rehab

Puka Nacua has checked into rehab after allegations he bit a woman while intoxicated on New Year’s Eve, according to his lawyer.

The Los Angeles Rams receiver’s attorney, Levi McCathern, confirmed to The California Post on Wednesday that Nacua is at a luxury treatment center in Malibu. McCathern said the stay was not a direct response to the lawsuit filed by Nacua’s accuser, Madison Atiabi, but added that “the combination of stories ya’ll have run is certainly a contributing factor.”

“He was in there a substantial period of time before any of these allegations broke with Madison,” McCathern said, “and he’s scheduled to be there for a while longer.”

McCathern said the goal is for Nacua “to improve his overall behavior in every aspect of his life that he can do it.”

“And I’m really proud of him doing it and doing it in this offseason,” the attorney added.

Photos obtained by The Post show Nacua going in and out of the Malibu facility on two occasions in March. He wore casual clothing, including oversized shirts and gym shorts, and appeared upbeat. In one moment, he smiled while greeting a woman who appeared to be visiting him.

The treatment center advertises specialized programs for people dealing with issues that include drug and alcohol addiction, chronic pain and mental health conditions.

“I have talked to him,” McCathern said. “He’s in great spirits. I think he’s doing absolutely fabulous. I’m just really excited for how he’s going to look next year. For as great as he was, I think he’s going to be even better going forward.”

Nacua has drawn attention twice this offseason in incidents where alcohol was allegedly involved. During Super Bowl week in San Francisco, video captured him stumbling and dancing in the street after attending a party.

The other incident is at the center of Atiabi’s legal filings. In a petition for a restraining order filed March 24, Atiabi alleged the two-time Pro Bowler got drunk and bit her during a Dec. 31 night out in Los Angeles. Atiabi, 24, wrote that Nacua made her uncomfortable after drinking at a dinner with friends, and claimed he said “f—k all the Jews” during the meal. She alleged he later “attacked” her in a sprinter van as the group traveled to another stop.

Atiabi claimed the bite “broke skin” and “left visible” marks on her shoulder, causing “immediate and severe physical pain.”

Atiabi sued Nacua on March 25. Her attorney, Joseph Kar, told The Post two days later that they were withdrawing the restraining-order request to better “focus our efforts” on the lawsuit.

McCathern has denied Nacua made antisemitic remarks, but acknowledged his client bit Atiabi. He has insisted it was mutual “horseplay.”

“They continue to make up stories trying to turn this minor episode into big dollars,” McCathern said last week. “In the end, they are going to be paying Puka and not the other way around.”

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office has said prosecutors are investigating Atiabi’s claims.
