Nikki Haley Doubles Down, Will Keep Going After Crushing Loss In Her Home State

Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley doubled down on her promise to stay in the race after former President Donald Trump was declared winner in her home state just minutes after polls closed.

Haley had promised that she would be staying in the race earlier in the week while speaking in Greenville. The former governor initially led reporters to believe that she would be exiting the race before using the added spotlight to hold a regular campaign rally.

After Saturday’s record shattering win for former President Trump, Haley only doubled down while addressing supporters at her campaign headquarters. “There are huge numbers of voters in our Republican primaries who are saying they want an alternative,” she claimed.

“I said earlier this week that no matter what happens in South Carolina, I would continue to run for president,” Haley continued. “I’m a woman of my word.”

Haley’s campaign has attracted significant support from Democrats in open primary states.

A CNN poll of New Hampshire Republican primary voters found that just 27 percent of Haley’s voters were actually Republicans. Pro-Haley groups have also targeted Democrat voters and Biden voters with mailers ensuring them that they can switch their party registration back as soon as the primary is over.

The trend appeared to hold in South Carolina, with one woman admitting that she will vote for Biden in November, but opted to cast her vote for Haley in hopes of cancelling out the vote of at least one Trump supporter.

With the conclusion of the South Carolian primary, the candidates will now head to Michigan for the state’s February 27 Republican contest. According to the FiveThirtyEight polling average, the former president currently holds a massive 50-point lead over his last remaining GOP rival.
