Patrick Clancy Breaks Silence After Hung Jury In Lindsay Clancy Case

Patrick Clancy, through attorney David Meier, issued a statement after a mistrial was declared in the murder trial of his wife, Lindsay Clancy, who confessed to killing the couple’s three young children but pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

“Patrick Clancy is grateful to the Court and to the jurors for their hard work, their commitment, and their perseverance. The loss of Patrick’s children is something from which he will never recover and from which there will never be closure,” Meier said after the trial concluded on Friday. “The prospect of reliving this tragedy through another trial is extraordinarily painful – for Patrick, for his family, and for all of us.”

The statement followed Judge William Sullivan’s declaration of a hung jury in Plymouth Superior Court in Massachusetts. Jurors were unable to reach a unanimous decision on whether Lindsay Clancy was criminally responsible for the deaths of the couple’s three children: Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, 8 months.

The children were killed on January 24, 2023, in the family’s home in Duxbury. Prosecutors alleged she strangled them with exercise bands in the basement while Patrick Clancy was out running errands that included a pharmacy stop and takeout. He returned to find the children and his then-wife, who had also been injured following a suicide attempt.

Lindsay Clancy, 36, a former labor and delivery nurse, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder. She admitted to killing the children, but pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

The defense argued that she was experiencing postpartum psychosis and was not criminally responsible, while the prosecution countered by arguing that she understood her actions and planned to send her husband out of the house.

The trial included about six weeks of proceedings and more than 38 hours of deliberations over seven days. The jury, nine women and three men, sent multiple notes indicating they were deadlocked. A note from the foreperson described concern that one juror had expressed doubt but would not apply the court’s instructions on reasonable doubt.

“It is with a heavy heart that we report we are unable to come to a unanimous decision, and we will not be able to,” the jury’s final note read. Sullivan then declared a mistrial. Reporting described an 11-1 split, with 11 jurors favoring acquittal on the criminal-responsibility question and one juror not joining that view.

Lindsay Clancy remains charged and continues to be held at Tewksbury Hospital, a forensic psychiatric facility, without bail. A status hearing is scheduled for Sept. 29, 2026. At that proceeding, the court may address a defense motion and a trial assignment.

Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz has not announced whether the office will retry the case before a new jury as of this report. Other possible paths include a later retrial, plea discussions, or a decision not to proceed.
