‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ Actor Killed In Shark Attack

A tragic encounter with a shark over the weekend claimed the life of a notable star from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.

First responders in Honolulu, Hawaii, were called to the scene to treat Tamayo Perry after the actor was pulled from the surf after being bitten by a shark off the island of Oahu on Sunday, according to the Daily Caller. The Honolulu Medical Services Office reported Perry’s death in a statement, adding that paramedics used jet skis to bring the 49-year-old to shore.

“As you can imagine, this is an extremely difficult time for all of us, and I ask for your kindness and your patience as we all just try to get through this next hour and into these next weeks and months,” said a spokeswoman for the agency at a news conference near the site of Perry’s death. “Honolulu safety responded via jet ski and brought the surfer here to shore. Honolulu EMS assisted with his death pronouncement.”

Perry had been serving as a lifeguard near the beach, according to a spokesman for the local police department. “Tamayo Perry was a lifeguard loved by all, he’s well known on the north shore, he’s a professional surfer known worldwide. Tamayo’s personality was infectious and as much as people loved him, he loved everyone else more,” said Kurt Lager, acting Chief of the Ocean Safety Department. “Our condolences go out to Tamayo’s family. We’re asking for some privacy for the family at this time.”

Over his short career, Perry starred as a buccaneer in 2011’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” and an episode of “Hawaii Five-0” as Spike. He also found roles on “Lost,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “Blue Crush” and “Charlie’s Angels 2,” the BBC reported.

Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi called his denizen’s death a “tragic loss” for the insular island community. He was, Blangiardi said, “a legendary waterman and highly respected, [he] grew up right over here, and just a great member of our ocean safety team…You get a call like this on a Sunday afternoon and it’s just hard to imagine.”

Perry’s true love was surfing, a profession he committed to for 10 years while competing in international competitions representing Oahu. He described himself on the Oahu Surfing Experience website as a “small-time island boy” who “can bang it out with the world’s best.”

Just weeks before his death, the 49-year-old posted a heartfelt message to his wife, Emilia Perry, according to the Daily Mail.

“Bad days are always cancelled when you’re hanging out with this beautiful & wonderful mermaid! I never want you to forget, that I absolutely love & adore you. Thank you for always pulling me out of my box & instigating & sharing so many wild & crazy adventures with me,” he wrote on Instagram.
