Police Release New Details On Body Found At Property Owned By Dem’s Husband

Boston police have released additional information after a body was discovered inside a rental property owned by the husband of U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), confirming that the victim died from a gunshot wound as homicide detectives continue to investigate the case. Authorities have not announced any arrests or officially identified a suspect, and the investigation remains active.

The body was found Saturday afternoon at a multi-family residence on Malta Street in Boston’s Mattapan neighborhood, a property owned by Pressley’s husband, Conan Harris. According to Boston police, officers responded to the address at approximately 1:52 p.m. after receiving a call to “investigate a person.” Upon arrival, officers located the victim deceased inside the home. The Boston Police Homicide Unit immediately took over the investigation.

In an update released, police confirmed the victim died from a gunshot wound but declined to provide additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Investigators have not said whether they have identified a suspect or whether they believe the incident was targeted. Officials have also not released information regarding a possible motive.

Although Boston police have not officially released the victim’s identity, the victim’s family identified her as 18-year-old Yoseliani Marte through a GoFundMe campaign. According to statements attributed to her family, they believe she was the victim of domestic violence. Police have not publicly confirmed those claims as part of their investigation.

Public property records show the Malta Street residence is owned by Harris, who has been married to Pressley since 2014. However, both Harris and the congresswoman have emphasized that they do not live at the property. The home has been used as a rental and is currently listed for sale with an asking price of approximately $1.15 million. The two-story building contains multiple bedrooms and has an assessed value of more than $900,000, according to city records.

A spokesperson for Pressley’s office stressed that neither the congresswoman nor her family were involved in the incident. The office also extended condolences to those affected by the tragedy.

“The Congresswoman extends her deepest condolences to the impacted family,” the spokesperson said in a statement released shortly after the discovery of the body. Similar statements have noted that Pressley is not personally the landlord managing the rental property.

The discovery initially drew widespread attention because of the property’s connection to the Massachusetts Democrat, who has represented the state’s 7th Congressional District since 2019 and is a member of the progressive congressional group commonly known as “The Squad.” Despite that connection, investigators have not indicated there is any evidence linking Pressley or Harris to the victim’s death beyond ownership of the property.

Police vehicles remained outside the residence as investigators processed the scene over the weekend. Crime scene tape surrounded portions of the property while homicide detectives gathered evidence and interviewed potential witnesses. Authorities have not announced whether any weapons were recovered from the scene or whether surveillance footage has been obtained.

As of Tuesday, the Boston Police Department continues to classify the case as an active homicide investigation. Officials are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact investigators.
