POLL: Trump Is TIED With Biden In State Democrats Have Carried Since 2004

A new poll from Fox News found that President Biden and former President Donald are effectively tied in Virginia, a state Democrats have carried in every presidential election since 2004.

The poll, which was released on Thursday, found Trump and Biden tied at 48 percent. If accurate, it would represent a massive decline for President Biden, who carried the state by 10 percentage points in 2020.

When breaking down for demographics, Biden maintains a strong advantage with black voters, as 73 percent of black voters indicated that they plan to support the president in November. This represents another decline from 2020, however, when Biden carried the demographic by 81 percentage points, according to Fox News Voter Analysis.

The president also leads among suburban women with 58 percent of the vote, as well as college-educated voters with 56 percent.

Former President Trump is maintaining a commanding lead among white evangelical Christians, 80 percent of whom back Trump.

Among independents, Biden and Trump are about even, with 45 percent backing Biden and 43 percent backing Trump.

In a five-way race between the two major party candidates, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West and Dr. Jill Stein, Biden edges out Trump by just one percentage point. While Kennedy takes more voters away from Trump than Biden, the damage evens out as more left-leaning voters pivot towards West and Stein.

“Virginia is a must win state for Biden, so a tight race here is going to require some serious defense from his campaign to hold it,” said Democrat pollster Chris Anderson, who conducts the Fox News Poll with Republican Daron Shaw. “But that appears possible, in that compared to elsewhere, Virginia voters are a little more positive about the economy and give Trump less of an advantage on the issues.”

Virginia has voted for the Democrat candidate in every presidential election since 2004, when George W. Bush carried the state.
