Popular Fox Host Reveals Tragic Reason She’s Been Off The Air
A popular anchor for Fox has broken her silence and revealed the reason viewers have not seen her on the air lately. Amy Andrews, a morning anchor with Fox 2 Detroit, announced over the weekend she has been in a serious battle against severe depression and anxiety over the course of the last several months.
“My severe depression and anxiety have returned in full force,” Andrews stated in a post on X.
Thank you so much to all of those who’ve been reaching out.🙏🏽 My severe depression and anxiety have returned in full force. I’ve stepped away from the anchor desk temporarily to battle with all I have so I can come back and spend my mornings with you. Much love always… pic.twitter.com/GxoTlGBeL9

Deadline Detroit previously reported that Andrews announced on May 18 she would be taking a “few weeks” off of anchoring the morning program in order to deal with “health issues.”

Andrews revealed that her mental health issues have come back “in full force.” Over the course of her career, Andrews has been a very outspoken advocate for mental health awareness and has been very open with the channel’s viewers about her own experiences with depression and anxiety. Back in June 2022, the popular morning anchor opened up about her return to work after having to take off several months in order to deal with her mental health disorders, issuing a heartfelt thanks for all the support she received while off the job.
“I finally had to take a step back and address it so I could move forward,” she said on X. “We never know what others are dealing with so always try to be kind and don’t ever be ashamed to admit that you may need a little help,” the anchor added in her post.
“Just a few weeks ago, on July 19, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Michigan Chapter praised Andrews for being ‘a longtime supporter of ours, using her platform to elevate our course and bring hope to so many,” the Daily Mail reported. “In 2019, Andrews also participated in a charity walk at Detroit’s riverfront to spread awareness for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and spoke to the crowd about her friend and colleague Jessica Starr, who died by suicide the year before,” it added.
In 2018, Andrews published a post on Instagram that said, “You can have a #RealConvo with me today and any day if you’re feeling bad or have questions about #suicide or mental health.” Andrews has also expressed her deepest thanks to her network for supporting her in her fight against depression and anxiety by allowing her to take the time off she needs to heal.
As of now, Andrews is scheduled to make a return to anchoring the program this coming Friday.
