Prince William Issues Rare Update On Kate Middleton’s Health
Prince William has updated watchers of the Royal Family on Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis, with the latest news making him cautiously optimistic.
PEOPLE Magazine reported on an impromptu walkabout by the royal couple during a visit to James’ Place Newcastle in northeast England on Tuesday. Well-wishers came out to snap photos and jump at the opportunity to hear from both of them. One denizen asked Prince William how Middleton is coming along in her battle, which Buckingham Palace has not clarified as to which type of cancer she is facing.
“Do you mind if I ask how your wife and children are?” one fan asks in an Instagram video posted by the WalesVideo account. “We’re all doing well, thank you,” the royal replied. “And obviously, Catherine?” the well-wisher continued.

“We’re all doing well,” Prince William said.
The son of King Charles marked his third day performing public-facing duties since his wife in March released a video announcing that a routine abdominal examination had “found cancer had been present.” Middleton, who married into the family and carries the honorary title of “Royal Companion of The Order of the Companions of Honour,” made the announcement following the release of a digitally altered family photograph intended to allay suspicions about why she hadn’t been seen in public since December. A tech entrepreneur with close ties to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle claimed that the video had been deceptively edited as well.
“It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family,” Kate explained in a video posted to social media on March 22nd. “In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was noncancerous. The surgery was successful, however, tests after the operation found cancer had been present.”
It was rumored that the announcement was intended to give the family private time to absorb the news. Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 6 had just been released from school for Easter break. About a week later, the royal couple were spotted making a surprise visit to a family farm that only provoked more questions about whether the woman who appeared alongside Prince William was actually her.
Prince William’s words of assurance came just over a month after the Royal Family’s last update on Middleton’s progress. During a tour of Shrewsbury Farmers’ Market in late March, Queen Camilla was approached by two little girls who offered handmade cards to her in support of the princess. “I know that Catherine is thrilled by all the kind wishes and support,” the queen told the girls. She promised Lois, six, and Harriet, 10, that she would transport both cards “carefully” in response to Harriet’s apology that they had become “a bit creased” due to the wind. “I’ll take them carefully and will make sure she knows they’re coming,” the Queen told the two girls.
