Pro-Trump Song Reaches #1 On Billboard Chart

A Trump-inspired country song has made a splash on the Billboard charts, capturing the #1 spot after less than a week in rotation.

The Post Millennial reported that “Fighter,” the patriotic single by Jon Kahn released under Baste Records, has broken through liberal entertainment barriers to lead the Billboard Digital Song Sales Chart. In his lyrics, Kahn draws inspiration from the two assassination attempts against former President Donald Trump — “take your shot, is that all you’ve got?” — while speaking in the voice of a “fighter” who will always “get back up.” As of Tuesday morning, “Fighter” had eclipsed new singles by other big-name artists like Jelly Roll and Shaboozey.

With just over a month before the November 5th election, pop culture has tapped into a fevered zeitgeist about the stakes of a second Trump administration. MAGA faithful have flocked to anthems that provide the musical track to their movement, and “Fighter” is far from the first to do so. Last year, a group of January 6th political prisoners known as the “J6 Prison Choir” released a song featuring former President Donald Trump which soared to the top of the iTunes charts. In “Justice for All,” the J6 prisoners can be heard singing the Star-Spangled Banner as President Trump recites the pledge of allegiance. Profits raised from its commercial success went to the legal defense funds of many facing federal trials.

Roughly six months later, conservative audiophiles buoyed the breakout hit “Rich Men North of Richmond” to the top of the Billboard charts. Composed by Appalachian native Oliver Anthony, the ballad became a rallying cry about the struggles of working-class Americans who can’t relate with rich northern politicians running the government and multinational corporations. Appearing on Joe Rogan’s podcast, Anthony noted that people were drawn to President Trump because of his unfiltered, authentic style of communication. “That’s what attracts people to like that rough, raw, authentic type of speech… It’s not clean-cut and it’s not professional, but at least you feel like he actually believes it,” he said.

Country singer Chris Wallin, who collaborated with Kahn to produce “Fighter,” said both assassination attempts caused the artists to ponder where America would be headed if Trump had been killed. “Working with Jon brought me back to the days when artists wrote and recorded songs that they not only loved but songs that represented what they believed as a person,” he said, adding, “Speaking for others through music is what true artists do. And that is what Jon is.”

Kahn complimented his partner for helping produce the commercial hit. “I’ve been in quite a few Nashville writers’ rooms and this first write with Chris was truly effortless in that we were totally in sync as to what we wanted the song to be. It needed to be not only heroic, but human. Chris is a total pro and craftsman. I’m truly grateful for this collaboration on what we both feel is an important song,” he added.
