NEW: NFL Legend Randy Moss Provides Update On Cancer Battle

Legendary NFL wide receiver Randy Moss confirmed previous reports that he was battling cancer when he described himself as a “cancer survivor” in a heartbreaking video statements. The NFL community has rallied around Moss — a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame — with players and analysts offering their support across the league on Sunday.

In a Friday afternoon Instagram Live session, Moss disclosed that he had a six-hour surgery six days ago for bile duct cancer. He stated that he underwent a Whipple procedure, and that the cancer was located just outside the bile duct, between the pancreas and the liver.

While Moss appeared tired from the procedure, he remained in good spirits and told supporters that he will be undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. The most recent procedure followed a two-hour procedure over Thanksgiving weekend, when doctors put a stent in his liver.

The NFL hall of famer urged viewers undergo regular screening. “By the grace of God, my liver started acting up,” Moss said.

Moss, who currently works as an NFL analyst for ESPN, announced earlier this month that he would be temporarily leaving the company to deal with a health issue. Larry Fitzgerald Sr., the father of NFL Hall of Fame receiver Larry Fitzgerald, later announced that Moss was battling cancer. The report was unconfirmed for a little under 24 hours until Moss addressed it in his video statement.

Prayers and well wishes for Moss, the single season touchdown receptions record holder, have poured in from around the league.

Ahead of Sunday’s NFL clash between the Carolina Panthers and the Dallas Cowboys, veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen sported a Randy Moss jersey to show support.

“Love you Randy. Dominating opponents is what you always have done and you will sure do it again! You got this!!,” said Rob Gronkowski, a future hall of famer and former teammate of Moss, in an X post. Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre offered his prayers and referred to Moss as one of the “all-time greats” in an X post of his own.

Moss hopes to return to television as soon as his treatment allows it.

Throughout 14 seasons in the NFL, Moss was a six-time All-Pro and racked up 15,292 receiving yards, good for the fifth-most all-time. He also hauled in more 156 touchdown receptions, trailing only Jerry Rice on the all-time leaderboard.
