Karen Huger, a star of “The Real Housewives of Potomac,” faces charges of driving while impaired by alcohol and driving under the influence following a car crash in Maryland.

Court documents reveal that Huger, 60, was driving her 2017 Maserati when Montgomery County Police Department officers stopped her at 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday. She is required to appear in court, according to PEOPLE magazine’s findings.

The reality television star is being charged with several driving offenses. These include the negligent operation of a vehicle in a way that poses a risk to lives and property, and reckless driving indicative of a disregard for the safety of individuals and property.

She’s also accused of not adjusting her vehicle’s speed to prevent a collision, exceeding the speed limits, operating a vehicle with a suspended registration, and failing to inform the authorities about a change in address within a stipulated 30-day period.

A Montgomery County Police representative informed TMZ that her driving was aggressive, noting she was going “too fast for the conditions,” according to their assessment.

Huger shared with TMZ, “Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes during this very frightening experience. I am still in shock from last nights incident, but grateful to be alive today. With the passing of my Beloved Mother, Grief comes and goes in waves, and with Mothers Day approaching it has felt more like a tsunami.”

“Last night I met a girlfriend for dinner, we talked and brought up some very emotionally sensitive topics. I was crying on my way home and saw a car heading right for me. I swerved to avoid the head-on collision, hit the divider and then a tree. I’m hurt, bruised up a bit, but so grateful I am alive! I did receive citations, one of which was unrelated to the incident which is understandable, but what was most surprising is that the car that almost hit me just drove away!” she continued.

Concluding her statement, Karen said, “I would like to stress, it’s important to understand your emotional state when driving and may this be a reminder to all to use their seatbelts, my Mother may be my Guardian Angel but the seatbelt saved my life.”

The vehicle was reportedly so severely damaged that it became inoperable, requiring a tow truck to remove it; the full extent of the damage remains unclear. Authorities issued multiple citations to Huger, though the specific reasons for these citations have not been disclosed. According to reports, she was not taken into custody.

Huger has been a prominent figure best known for her role on the reality television series that airs on Bravo. She is often referred to as the “Grande Dame” of Potomac for her sophisticated demeanor and leadership qualities among the cast members. She has ventured into the beauty industry with her fragrance line, La’Dame by Karen Huger as well.

Aside from her business and television career, Huger is also known for her philanthropic efforts, particularly in areas concerning Alzheimer’s disease, a cause close to her heart due to personal family experiences.
