REPORT: Journalists Seen ‘Crying In Hallways’ Over Trump’s Gaetz Nomination

The nomination of Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) as attorney general by President-elect Donald J. Trump sent shockwaves through Washington this week—and the mainstream media. According to a CNN report, journalists were reportedly seen crying and hugging in hallways following the announcement, a reaction emblematic of the dramatic political shift that Trump’s victory signals.

“We’ve seen people today, our fellow reporters, crying, hugging in the hallways,” Paula Reid said on CNN. “I’ve gotten text messages from sources in the Trump administration, the Biden administration — no one is endorsing this.”

Reid went on to say. “He really does feel victimized by the Justice Department, by the FBI. Trump also feels that way. They share that empathy. And really the only check on him if he becomes the nation’s top law enforcement official will be the judiciary and juries.”

A staunch Trump loyalist, Gaetz has been one of the most vocal critics of what he and many conservatives see as the “weaponization” of federal institutions. His nomination marks a clear signal from Trump that his administration will prioritize accountability within the DOJ and focus on restoring trust in its operations. After his nomination, Gaetz, 42, resigned from Congress.

Known for his fiery rhetoric and unapologetic partisanship, Gaetz has been a lightning rod in Washington since entering Congress in 2017. Representing a deeply conservative district in Florida’s panhandle, Gaetz built a reputation as a relentless advocate for Trump’s policies and an outspoken critic of the Democratic establishment.

President-elect Trump wasted no time in celebrating his choice for attorney general. “It is my Great Honor to announce that Congressman Matt Gaetz, of Florida, is hereby nominated to be The Attorney General of the United States,” Trump declared. “Matt will end Weaponized Government, protect our Borders, dismantle Criminal Organizations, and restore Americans’ badly-shattered Faith and Confidence in the Justice Department.”

“This is a very serious pick, and Donald Trump is obviously telegraphing that he means business,” Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) told CNN. “Matt Gaetz is one of his best weapons in Congress. He’s taking him out of Congress, and he’s giving him the Attorney General’s office.”

While Gaetz’s critics have decried his nomination as “dangerous” and “destabilizing,” his supporters see it as a long-overdue correction to a Justice Department that has lost the trust of many Americans.

For Trump’s base, the nomination is a victory. Gaetz’s willingness to take on establishment figures, including within his own party, has endeared him to conservative voters who view him as a fighter unafraid to challenge the status quo. His nomination as attorney general sets the stage for a confirmation battle that could become a defining moment for Trump’s second term.
