REPORT: Chart-Topping Country Singer Arrested For Assault
Nashville police on Monday arrested Chris Young, the former reality show contestant and country music star, after he allegedly assaulted a police officer in a drunk and disorderly affair that resulted in charges for assault and resisting arrest.
TMZ reported on an arrest affidavit that detailed Young’s altercations with several bar patrons while drinking at the Tin Roof in midtown Nashville. The chaos began during a surprise visit by agents from the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) who arrived to inspect licenses and ensure no underage drinking was occurring on the premises.
After being asked to show his ID, Young allegedly pulled his phone out and began recording the TABC agents before following them to another establishment. There, he rendezvoused with several friends while the agents went behind the bar to inspect the ABC license. As the agents prepared to leave, the “Getting You Home” star blocked the exit and allegedly shoved one of them in the shoulder. An officer, who described Young’s eyes as “eyes were bloodshot and watery” and having “slurred speech,” pushed him down to the ground, leading to a mass of bar-goers intervening to create a “hostile” situation.

Young was booked on disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and assault on an officer with offensive contact, all misdemeanors. After staying overnight in jail, he posted a $2,500 bond Tuesday morning and is due back in court on February 16th.
After winning the country music TV competition “Nashville Star” in 2006, Young burnished his credentials as more than a one-hit wonder. His second Album, “The Man I Want to Be,” went platinum in 2009 and he has since been a regular presence on the Billboard country charts. He has previously spoken about the luck involved in his big break and how his singing career had a rocky start.
“My career started with a no.37-charting single, a no.52, and another no.37 – in that order. If you had asked me if I ever thought I’d be celebrating my 12th no.1, I’d have no words” he wrote on Facebook back in 2021.
