REPORT: Trump Considers Firing Top Official
President Donald Trump is weighing a shake-up at the top of the Justice Department, floating the idea of firing Attorney General Pam Bondi and replacing her with a trusted ally, according to a source close to the White House.
The president discussed a possible ouster “with senior members of his team” ahead of his Wednesday night address on the Iran war, the source told NewsNation.
Bondi, who has served as the administration’s legal point person through waves of lawsuits and the controversial rollout of Jeffrey Epstein-related records, could be swapped out for Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche or Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin, multiple outlets reported, citing sources familiar with the talks.
Behind the scenes, frustration has been building. Trump has reportedly been unhappy with Bondi’s failure to aggressively pursue his political opponents. Her handling of the Epstein files has also raised eyebrows, with her public statements at times clashing with other administration officials, including the president, according to those sources.
Despite the chatter, Trump struck a supportive tone publicly.
“Attorney General Pam Bondi is a wonderful person and she is doing a good job,” he said in a White House statement Wednesday.

Pressure over the Epstein files, while dampened, is coming from both sides of the aisle. Lawmakers have blasted the Justice Department’s release of heavily redacted documents, with some accusing top officials of shielding Epstein’s associates.
Blanche, Bondi’s deputy, pushed back on the idea that Trump’s base is turning on the department.
“What’s happening now is Democrats in Congress and some senators and a few Republicans … are making this their entire existence,” Blanche told NewsNation last week. “That’s not MAGA.”
Bondi’s troubles may not end there. She is set to be deposed later this month after the House Oversight Committee voted to subpoena her over the department’s handling of the Epstein investigation.
If Trump follows through, Bondi would become the second Cabinet-level official to be pushed aside in recent weeks. Kristi Noem was reassigned from her role leading the Department of Homeland Security to serve as “Special Envoy for The Shield of the Americas” after facing backlash over her management of the agency.
