REPORT: Tulsi Gabbard’s Fate Revealed Amid Swirling Rumors Of Potential Firing
President Donald Trump has reportedly made a decision on the future of National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard amid rumors of further cabinet shakeups.
According to a report from The Guardian, President Trump has privately asked cabinet members in recent weeks whether he should replace Gabbard. The article states that Trump has been “venting frustration that she shielded a former deputy who undercut his rationale for war with Iran, according to two people briefed on the discussions.”
The two anonymous sources were speaking in reference to former National Counterterrorism Director Joe Kent, who resigned last month over his objections to the Iran war and what he viewed as excessive Israeli influence on the president’s decision-making.
“Currently, there is no standout candidate to take the job, and advisers have cautioned that creating a high-profile vacancy before a successor is ready could cause unhelpful political distractions,” the report notes. It adds that Trump’s discussions mark an ominous development for Gabbard “given the president tends to poll his advisers when he starts to seriously consider whether a personnel change is necessary.
When asked about his confidence in Gabbard on Sunday, Trump indicated that she still has his support. “Yeah, sure. I mean, she’s a little bit different in her thought process than me, but that doesn’t make somebody not available to serve,” Trump said of Gabbard’s stance on the Iran conflict.
White House spokesman Steven Cheung also issued a statement in defense of Gabbard’s tenure. “As President Trump just said in his remarks, he has confidence in Director Gabbard and the tireless work she is doing. He has assembled the most talented and impactful cabinet ever, and they have collectively delivered historic victories on behalf of the American people,” he said.
A related report from the New York Times, which came just hours before the firing of Attorney General Pam Bondi, claimed that Trump considered moving Bondi to the DNI role in place of Gabbard.
On Monday, CBS News White House correspondent Jennifer Jacobs reported that Trump did indeed consider the idea of swapping Bondi in for Gabbard, but ultimately decided that he has confidence in Gabbard. “Advisors close to Trump considered the idea of moving US Attorney General Pam Bondi to another senior role in the admin, including director of national intelligence,” Jacobs posted on X.
“But Trump has said he wants Tulsi Gabbard to stay in that position, sources told me.”

The report comes just hours after Trump confirmed that Bondi had been removed from her post. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche will serve as acting attorney general on an interim basis until a longterm replacement is selected.
