Rising Country Star Involved In Crash That Killed Elderly Woman
Rising country music star Conner Smith allegedly struck a pedestrian with his car in Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday. The pedestrian, an elderly woman, succumbed to her injuries after being transported to a local hospital.
A preliminary investigation indicates that a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, driven by Conner Smith, 24, was traveling north on 3rd Avenue North as Dorothy Dobbins, 77, was crossing the roadway. “It appears that she was inside a marked crosswalk when she was struck around 7:30 p.m. Dobbins, who lived nearby, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died,” the Nashville Police Department announced in a press release Monday.
Investigators said the country singer appeared to be “failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian,” at the time of the crash. Authorities added that Smith showed no signs of impairment and “there are no charges at present as the investigation continues.”

An attorney for Smith confirmed to Fox News that the “Creek Will Rise” singer was “involved in a car accident that tragically claimed a life.”
“His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins’ family during this incredibly difficult time. Mr. Smith continues to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation,” the statement added.
The Nashville Police Department told the outlet that additional updates on the case may take weeks. Smith was reportedly released not long after the incident and there are currently no updates on potential charges as of this report.
The fatal collision took place on the final day of the annual CMA Fest, a country music festival that was hosted in Nashville over the weekend. Smith’s latest Instagram post shows photos from the event, though he has yet to release an official statement on social media.
Smith, a Nashville native, has been active in the country music scene since he was 16-years-old. He rose to national fame in 2019 when he signed with The Valory Music Co. in 2019, according to Music Row.
“I’ve always been in love with the storytelling of country music,” Smith said. “I’ve dedicated my life to trying to figure out how to be a songwriter, and how to capture those same emotions that I felt as a kid growing up in this town. Country music shaped so much of my life.”
