Dave Edmunds, a highly successful singer/songwriter who had a number of chart-topping singles in the 1970’s and 1980’s, is reportedly “fighting for his life” after suffering a massive heart attack earlier this week.

On July 29, the Welsh rocker’s wife, Cici Edmunds, took to Facebook to detail the moment her husband of 40 years “died” in her arms before she and hospital staff were able to revive him after doing chest compressions.

“Dave Edmunds. My beloved husband of 40 years has had a major cardiac arrest as I told you about in my previous post. He died in my arms while I desperately tried to keep him alive while trying to clear his airways from all of the fluids that come out of a human being’s body when we pass away,” she wrote.

“As I’m on the floor with Dave dead and lots of fluid is coming out of his mouth and the other places in his body. I keep my emotions in check, even though I’m absolutely heartbroken and terrified at the shock of having my beloved husband dead in my arms,” she continued. “My nurse is also on the floor right next to myself and Dave pumping away really hard performing heavy CPR.”

Even after a nurse informed her that Dave “was gone,” Cici explained that she refused to “give in or give up on a miraculous intervention, anything to get my husband back alive.” Medical professionals then proceeded to administer chest compressions per her request.

“Every second is vital,” Cici Edmunds said. “So no time for emotions here.”

Cici Edmunds went on to thank fans and supporters for the outpouring of prayers and support. “My brilliant talented funny and special Dave could really use as many people’s prayers and good wishes so to speak,” she wrote. “As I told you all in my previous post by a miracle they ( the doctors at the ICU operating room, intubated Dave after a miracle resurrecting him for a moment.”

She further conceded that her husband is far from out of the woods and will likely face significant health challenges if he does survive. “He very clearly has brain damage and severe memory loss etc. And the risk of yet another major cardiac arrest is high. And if that occurs there is no chance for Dave,” she continued.

Born in Cardiff, Wales, on April 14, 1944, Dave Edmunds achieved his major breakthrough in 1968 when he joined the blues rock band Love Sculpture. After the band split in 1970, Edmunds went on to release his first solo album, “Rockville,” in 1972.

“Rockpile” included the singer-songwriter’s cover of Smiley Lewis’ “I Hear You Knocking,” as well as a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Outlaw Blues.” The former tune spent several weeks at the top of U.K. singles charts in 1972.

The Welsh songwriter later formed his own band, also called Rockpile, in 1980. He recruited a number of industry veterans for the project, including Nick Lowe, Billy Bremner and Terry Williams. That same year, the band released their most popular album, “Seconds of Pleasure,” with the single “Teacher, Teacher.”

In 2015, Edmunds stepped away from music after stating that he wanted to spend more time with his family.
