Royal Family Breaks Silence On Tragic Death: ‘Adverse Reaction’

The Royal Family was rocked by tragedy back in February following the death of Thomas Kingston. Now his widow, Lady Gabriella Windsor, is opening up about why she believes her husband took his own life with a firearm more than nine months ago.

According to Lady Gabriella, Kingston was subjected to a new round of medication in the two weeks leading up to his death. The second cousin to King Charles explained that Kingston’s decision to take his own life was likely an “impulsive” act brought on by an “adverse reaction” to the medication he was prescribed. “It appears to me Tom’s impulsive action was likely provoked by an adverse reaction to the medication he had been taking in the last two weeks of his life,” she said in a statement, the New York Post reported.

The statement, read to police by a sobbing Lady Gabriella, went on to say that she never heard her husband utter a word about suicidal ideation. Although his “[work] was certainly a challenge for him over the years,” Kingston’s wife said, “I highly doubt it would have led him to take his own life, and it seemed much improved. If anything had been troubling him, I’m positive that he would have shared that he was struggling severely. The fact that he took his life at the home of his beloved parents suggests the decision was the result of a sudden impulse.”

Further, the fact that Kingston left no note or indication about his motive is all the more reason to believe that his suicide was not premeditated, she said. “The lack of any evidence of inclination it seems highly likely to me that he had an adverse reaction to the pills that led him to take his life. I believe anyone taking pills such as these need to be made more aware of the side effects to prevent any future deaths,” Lady Gabriella told police at the Cotswolds home of Kingston’s parents where he was found dead. “If this could happen to Tom, this could happen to anyone,” Lady Gabriella’s witness statement read.

According to the Post, Kingston had been prescribed zopiclone, a powerful sedative meant to aid with insomnia or other sleeping disorders. Kingston, a financier and former hostage negotiator, stopped taking the drug for a time, telling his wife that it made him “very anxious.” In response, his pharmacist changed his prescription to citalopram and “doubled” the dosage, court filings revealed.

The young couple were married just four years before Kingston’s death, a tragedy acknowledged by the Royal Family in a statement at the time. “It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Thomas Kingston, our beloved husband, son and brother,” it read, calling Kingston’s death a “great shock” to family members Lady Gabriella, Martin and Jill Kingston, Joanna Connolly and Emma Murray.

Other tragedies have befallen the unfortunate family in just a matter of months. Both King Charles and Kate Middleton continue their battles with cancer. On July 29th Lord Robert Fellowes, the uncle to Prince William and Prince Harry by marriage, died of undisclosed causes. In July the former lover of Princess Beatrice was found dead of an apparent overdose.
