Royal Family Celebrates The Arrival Of A New Baby
The Royal Family is cheering the arrival of a healthy baby girl, the newest member who is named after the late, great Queen Elizabeth II.
Wednesday brought news from Buckingham Palace that Prince Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, have welcomed their second child. A family spokesperson shared a photo of the little girl swaddled in a pink blanket while covering her eyes for a daytime nap.
Beatrice, the granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth, chose the name Athena Elizabeth Rose for her youngest, a touching tribute.
Although young Atena arrived several weeks premature, the Royal Family says she is “healthy” and “doing well” in the care of her proud parents.
“Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, born on Wednesday, 22nd January, at 12:57pm. The baby was born weighing 4 pounds and 5 ounces,” the palace statement said on X.
“The King and Queen, and other members of The Royal Family have all been informed and are delighted with the news,” it continued, referring to King Charles, Queen Camilla, and their kin. “Princess Beatrice and Mr Mapelli Mozzi would like to thank all the staff at the hospital for their wonderful care. Her Royal Highness and her daughter are healthy and doing well, and the family are enjoying spending time together with Athena’s older siblings, Wolfie and Sienna.”
Edoardo, 41, known affectionately as Edo, was credited by the Royal Palace with taking Athena’s first photograph. The proud father reposted the photograph on his own Instagram page, writing that he was “completely besotted” by Athena.
“We welcomed Baby Athena into our lives last week. She is tiny and absolutely perfect. We are all (including Wolfie and Sienna) already completely besotted with her,” he wrote. “Our hearts are overflowing with love for you, baby Athena.”
“A massive thank you from my wife and I goes out to all the wonderful staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their exceptional care and support during this incredibly special time,” he continued.
Sarah Ferguson, Beatrice’s mother and baby Athena’s new grandmother, wrote an outpouring message of love to her second grandchild by the happy couple.
“Overflowing with love and joy to be able to welcome Athena Elizabeth Rose into the world. She is already so adored and I’m incredibly blessed to be a Granny once again. So proud of Edo, Beatrice and the rest of my little 5-a-side team!” Ferguson said.
Social media was filled with similar sentiments by other members of the Royal Family. Princess Eugenie, Beatrice’s sister, exclaimed, “Welcome Baby Girl!” in an Instagram reel.
The road to Athena’s safe and healthy birth wasn’t an easy one. In December, Buckingham Palace announced that Beatrice would be foregoing extended travel as her due date drew closer. As a result, she paused a planned holiday trip to Italy with relatives and instead joined the Royal Family for Christmas Day services in Sandringham.
Young Athena is 11th in line to the throne, according to People, and inherits the aristocratic title of “nobile donna” from Edo’s side of the family.
