Russia-Gate Democrat Thinks Trump Is Responsible For The Death Of Russian Dissident
While appearing on MSNBC, U.S. Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) suggested that former President Donald Trump is responsible for the death of Russian dissident Alexander Navalny.
Navalny, a Russian opposition leader, was found dead in a Russian prison earlier this week after previously being sentenced to more than 20 years in jail. The Russian government accused him of working with U.S. intelligence agencies with the goal of launching a coup in Russia.
Navalny’s prosecution and mysterious death has been condemned by leaders throughout the world, with many suspecting foul play.
While discussing Navalny’s death during an appearance on MSNBC, noted Russian collusion conspiracy theorist Ted Lieu insinuated that former President Donald Trump is responsible.
“I first of all agree with President Biden that Russia is responsible for his death. Also, what happened in a few days leading up to his death? Well, we had former President Donald Trump essentially say that Russia should attack European countries,” Lieu said. The comment was in reference to an out of context comment made by former President Trump last week in which he called on NATO nations to spend their required GDP percentages on their respective military budgets.
While Trump has called on European nations to increase military spending since 2017, Democrats and corporate media outlets have pounced on the latest clip to falsely claim that he encouraged Russia to attack.
Lieu took it to another level when criticizing the former president’s comments, insinuating that Russia was given the “green light” to kill Navalny because of Trump. “That is crazy. That is traitorous language. Russia certainly was listening, and I think they thought, hey, we now have a green light to do all sorts of crazy stuff,” he said. “And if Trump were to be president, Putin would have even more latitude.”
Lieu has repeatedly advanced the bogus “Russian collusion” conspiracy theory long after Special Counsel Robert Mueller found no evidence of “collusion,” and even after the Durham Report concluded that the Trump-Russia investigation was launched without merit.
The California Democrat, who referred to John Durham as a “partisan hack” after his damning report was released, manages to slip Trump-Russia conspiracies into completely unrelated matters. “I do support legislation that requires disclosure on ads and social media and so on so next time for example, if you see a pro-Trump ad, it might just say at the bottom ‘paid for by the Kremlin.’ And so that’s the kind of disclosure that we would like to see,” Lieu told Morning Joe back in June.
