Savannah Guthrie’s Future At NBC Revealed

NBC is publicly signaling that Savannah Guthrie will return to the “Today” show, even as the network acknowledges she remains consumed by the search for her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie.

In the network’s first public comments about Guthrie’s status, NBC said Thursday that the longtime “Today” co-host “plans to return” to the morning show at some point, but that her priority right now is supporting her family and helping bring her mother home.

Nancy Guthrie has been missing for 33 days, “Today” noted in a brief update on the case Thursday morning.

After spending weeks in Tucson, Arizona, assisting with the search efforts, Guthrie has recently returned to New York. NBC said she visited “Today’s” home base, Studio 1A at Rockefeller Center, for the first time since her mother’s apparent abduction.

“Savannah Guthrie stopped by the studio this morning to be with and thank her TODAY colleagues,” NBC said. “While she plans to return to the show on air, she remains focused right now supporting her family and working to help bring Nancy home.”

Co-hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones spoke about Guthrie’s visit during the 10 a.m. hour, describing an emotional reunion behind the scenes.

Guthrie “hugged every single person in this room,” Hager said.

“She said that, you know, she has the intention to return to the show — even though it feels like the hardest thing to do, it’s also her home and where she feels so loved, and she is beyond loved here,” Hager said.

“Whenever you are ready, we are here,” Jones said, reflecting the message Guthrie’s colleagues shared during the visit.

The network’s statement offers a clearer public picture after days of speculation about Guthrie’s future on the show. CNN reported last week that the timeline for her return was uncertain and entirely up to her, given the ongoing search and the strain on her family.
