Shooting On UVA Campus By Ex-College Football Player Leaves 3 Dead, Including One Team Member
A new report from the Daily Wire has revealed that a former football player for the University of Virginia was being hunted down by law enforcement as the Charlottesville campus went on lockdown after the suspect allegedly shot and killed three people, which included a former teammate, and wounded two others late Sunday local authorities said.
The report then stated that the suspect was identified by police officers as Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., who was seen sporting a burgundy jacket with jeans and red shoes. He was spotted driving a black 2021 Dodge Durango police said.
“Around 10:30 p.m. last night, there was a shooting on Grounds. One of our students, Christopher Darnell Jones, Jr., is suspected to have committed the shooting,” school President Jim Ryan wrote in an email to students and employees. ‘The suspect remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous,'” the Daily Wire reported.

“Text messages went out to students warning them to shelter in place while the manhunt continued throughout the night. Monday classes were canceled and a state police helicopter flew over the grounds,” the Daily Wire said.
“I am on grounds like many of you; I am sheltering in place and in direct touch with University leadership and UPD,” the school’s vice president and chief student affairs officer Robyn Hadley said to students in an email. “If you are not inside and safe, immediately seek safety.”
Officials with the university did not immediately reveal the identities of the victims who died during the shooting, nor did they say if they were students who attended the school, however, one of the people who supposedly died during the incident is believed to be D’Sean Perry, a linebacker who played in the previous day’s game against Pitt.
“Jones is a 5-foot, 9-inch, 195-pound running back from Petersburg, Va., who was listed as a freshman on the school’s athletic department web site in 2018,” the report added.
Virginia Republican Gov. Glenn Younkin put out a statement concerning the shooting on early Monday.
“This morning, Suzanne and I are praying for the UVA community,” Youngkin said. “Virginia State Police is fully coordinating with UVA police department and local authorities. Please shelter in place while the authorities work to locate the suspect.”
This is horrendously evil. A person came on campus and snuffed out three individuals. The motive isn’t known right now, but there is no justification aside from self-defense that justifies such an action. Of course, the left will probably be quick to start calling for gun control, though we don’t have a lot of details about the shooting at the moment.
Our Second Amendment rights are not to be trampled on by the government for any reason, including the violent acts committed by a small group of criminals and mentally disturbed individuals. The government cannot take away rights because rights do not come from the government. They come from God.
The founders of this great nation understood that we needed to have the right to bear arms so that we could defend our lives, liberty, and property from harm. Nothing should allow the government to take that right away from us, not even tragedies like this one.
