Country Joins Olympics Boycott After ‘Degenerate’ Opening Ceremony Mocking Christians

The left-wing populist government of Slovakia has announced they will be boycotting the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics, citing the “insult” to the Christian faith and what they called the “degenerate decadence” of the opening ceremony, according to a report published by Newsmax. Deputy Prime Minister Tomas Taraba took to social media on Monday where he revealed that he had already canceled his trip to France to attend the closing ceremony after he witnessed the LGBTQ skit mocking the Last Supper of Jesus Christ that angered believers in Christ the world over.

“I was supposed to represent Slovakia at the closing ceremony, but this Olympics will be forever remembered as a repulsive symbol of degenerate decadence,” Taraba went on to write,  adding that the organizers “abused the beauty of sport and turned it into progressive political theater.” Taraba, who had to take over some of the responsibilities for Prime Minister Robert Fico back in May after a failed assassination attempt on his life, placed a strong emphasis on his decision to skip the ceremony, saying, “For that, I decided that I will not participate in the ceremony.”

“Taraba’s Christian right-wing Slovak National Party is in a coalition with Fico’s leftist-populist Direction-Social Democracy government. Fico’s administration combines left-wing economic policies with strong nationalism and a rejection of globalist projects, such as opposing Ukraine’s admission into NATO and the EU,” Newsmax reported. “The Deputy Prime Minister criticized the Olympic organizers for insulting Christian symbols and promoting ‘an abomination for the world’ through the presentation of ‘full LGBT ideology.'”

Not long after, the International Olympic Committee decided to take down video footage of the opening ceremony from YouTube following the backlash it garnered, Taraba got on X and said, “The International Olympic Committee is deleting the disgraceful opening ceremony from the Internet. The insults to Christianity and the presented decadence have reached such a level that they have offended the whole normal world, which understands the difference between culture and garbage.”

Many other leaders from around the world share the sentiments of Taraba. One of the strongest voices to come out and condemn the opening ceremony debacle in a couple of different videos is Catholic Bishop Robert Barron. In one of the clips he posted online as his response to the whole fiasco, Barron referred to the drag queen scene as being a “gross, flippant mockery” of a “very central moment in Christianity.”

Unsurprisingly, the artistic director who oversaw the opening ceremony, Thomas Jolly, has been trying to bring about the end of the controversy by making a claim that any sort of similarities between the performance and the Last Supper were simply a coincidence. He explained that his actual intention was to recreate a “great pagan festival” and not to offend anyone’s religious beliefs.
