‘Squad’ Rep. Tlaib Spends Over $35K On Luxury Limos While Pushing For Income Equality

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), one of the most outspoken progressive lawmakers in Congress and a founding member of “The Squad,” has come under fire after new campaign filings revealed her team spent tens of thousands of dollars on luxury transportation over the past year.

According to Federal Election Commission (FEC) reports, Tlaib’s campaign paid roughly $36,700 to a Detroit-based company called Aline Luxury Limo Services between October 2024 and September of this year. The transactions, filed under “travel” and “transportation” expenses, were made in dozens of payments—many ranging between $600 and $1,300 per trip.

The company, registered to a suburban Detroit address, advertises upscale chauffeured rides and black car services. While it’s unclear whether the vehicles were stretch limos or executive sedans, the repeated use of a “luxury” vendor has drawn heavy scrutiny given Tlaib’s frequent criticism of wealth inequality and “lavish spending by the political elite.”

Tlaib, who represents Michigan’s 12th Congressional District, has built her political brand around economic populism—often railing against “corporate greed” and calling for higher taxes on the wealthy. Just last year, she co-sponsored a bill with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) to penalize companies with large CEO-to-worker pay gaps, framing the legislation as a way to fight for fairness and dignity for working families.

But her campaign’s spending habits have fueled charges of hypocrisy. House Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) communications director called the revelations “just another example of socialist hypocrisy in action,” adding, “It’s always the people who lecture about inequality that live the most comfortably.”

The FEC records show consistent payments to Aline Luxury Limo Services throughout the year—sometimes multiple in a single month—suggesting regular use rather than isolated events. Many of the charges coincide with local campaign appearances and travel days in Michigan, though others appear around trips to Washington, D.C. according to Fox News.

Although Aline Luxury Limo Services has no public information available, an archived website for DTW Chauffeured Rides — a company registered at the same address as Aline’s owner — described the business as a “limousine service company providing luxury transportation for more than a decade,” according to the Wayback Machine.

WATCH:

While campaign funds can legally be used for travel related to official or political duties, the Federal Election Commission requires all expenditures to be “reasonable” and “campaign-related.” Any spending that appears personal or excessive could face additional scrutiny.

The controversy adds to growing criticism of the progressive bloc’s personal spending. In recent years, fellow Squad members like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) have faced similar backlash for first-class travel, security costs, or designer wardrobe expenses.

For Tlaib, who won her seat as a crusader against corruption and inequality, the story threatens to dent her carefully crafted image heading into the 2026 election cycle. Her district remains safely blue, but her credibility among populist voters could take a hit if the story continues to gain traction.

The financial revelation follows a series of heated exchanges in Washington, including one during a House Oversight hearing where Tlaib accused Republicans of orchestrating a “fascist takeover” of the nation’s capital. GOP Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) fired back, calling her remarks reckless and divisive. Tlaib has also faced scrutiny for her silence on recent Middle East peace developments, with some questioning why she hasn’t commented on former President Trump’s ceasefire deal between Israel and Gaza.
