Kathryn Crosby, known for her roles in Hollywood and as Bing Crosby’s widow, has passed away at the age of 90. According to family representative B. Harlan Boll, she died from natural causes at her home in Hillsborough, California, surrounded by loved ones on Friday evening around 9 pm, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.

Kathryn Crosby was a significant figure in the entertainment world, primarily noted for her roles in Hollywood during the 1950s and as the wife of the legendary entertainer Bing Crosby. Born Olive Kathryn Grandstaff on November 25, 1933, in West Columbia, Texas, she later adopted Kathryn Grant as her stage name.

Kathryn’s career in cinema began after she signed with Paramount Pictures, marking her entry into the industry with roles that highlighted her charm and versatility as an actress. Among her most notable films were “The Phenix City Story” (1955), where she played a pivotal role, and “Anatomy of a Murder” (1959), a film that stood out for its critical acclaim.

Her personal life garnered substantial public interest, especially following her marriage to Bing Crosby in 1957. Kathryn was considerably younger than Bing, who was more than thirty years her senior, but their marriage was one of mutual respect and affection. Together, they had three children, and Kathryn dedicated much of her later years to her family, especially after Bing died in 1977.

“We kept meeting each other, and then we’d plan to get married, and he would have a kidney stone or something dreadful like that,” Crosby recounted in a 2014 Smashing Interviews article about her late husband. “We kept waiting, and I kept working. Later on, we finally managed to get married, which was a secret.”

“He loved me, and I knew it. He didn’t always say it, but he always showed it. He loved strong women. His mother absolutely ran their family. If I ever felt strongly enough about something to ask him, he always did it. There was never even any discussion, and I’m very grateful for that.”

Kathryn made movies in the 50s. After 1959 she was Mrs. Bing Crosby and only did TV shows (most of them with her husband & or family)

After Bing’s death, Kathryn made fewer public appearances but remained an active figure in maintaining her late husband’s legacy. She participated in interviews and events that celebrated Bing Crosby’s contributions to music and film. In her later years, Kathryn also engaged in philanthropic activities, supporting causes important to her and her family. Her life story reflects not only a chapter of Hollywood’s golden era but also her resilience and dedication to family and charitable causes.
