Star Basketball Player Dies Suddenly At 22
College basketball star Gregg Glenn III, an every-game starter for Tulane last season, has passed away at the age of 22 due to what the school is calling a “tragic accident.” The announcement of Glenn’s passing was made on Monday. He had started in all 34 games for his team last season.
“It is with profound sadness that I reach out to you today,” Tulane University’s Vice President Sarah Cunningham stated in a letter.
“We have lost a cherished member of our university community, Gregg Glenn III, who died in a tragic accident this weekend. He was a talented student-athlete who enriched our lives with his spirit, dedication, and passion for both sports and academics,” Cunningham continued.
“Gregg was an outstanding athlete on our men’s basketball team and an individual who brought joy and light to those around him. His commitment to excellence inspired many of us,” she added.
As of this writing, there have been no further details concerning the circumstances of his death.
Glenn was originally a student at the University of Michigan, but transferred to Tulane after completing his freshman year. During his time at U of M, he made four appearances.
During his season with Tulane, he racked up 10.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Glenn, the oldest of his siblings, was studying for a degree in health and wellness.
“Known for his infectious personality, positive energy, and kindness, he brightened every room he entered. Well known in the South Florida area for his basketball prowess, he will be greatly missed by many,” the letter went on to say.
Tulane’s basketball team posted its own announcement on X, saying, “Our heartfelt sympathies go out to his family, friends, and everyone who knew and cared for him during this difficult time.”

Glenn had a number of accomplishments under his belt, despite being only 22 years old. He was a three-time all-state honoree for Calvary Christian Academy in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and was also part of Team USA in the 2019 FIBA Americas U16 Championship tournament in Brazil, helping the team take home the gold medal in that event.
The basketball sensation was in the process of training for his third season with Tulane at the time of the tragic accident.
“Let us remember Gregg not just for his achievements in sports, but for the kindness and warmth he shared with everyone,” Cunningham concluded. “He will forever remain a part of our university family.”
