Maricopa County’s ballot irregularities have been making headlines, and now Elon Musk has added his voice to the conversation. On Twitter, Musk commented on the strange events surrounding Maricopa County’s ballot counting and pointed to the county’s inability to provide a chain of custody for a number of ballots, which was twice Kari Lake’s opponent’s margin of victory.

“Strange”, he simply said in response to a few jarring irregularities.

His comments caused a flurry of reactions.

In the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial election, Lake refused to concede and assembled a legal team to challenge the results of the loss. However, the election results were certified with Hobbs winning by over 17,000 votes. Lake alleged voter disfranchisement due to ballot printing problems and long waiting lines in Maricopa County. Lake even called for the arrest of Maricopa County election officials.

On Tuesday, Abe Hamadeh, an Arizona Attorney General candidate, took to Twitter to reveal a concerning statistic. He noted that ballots cast on Election Day in Maricopa County were 15 times more likely to be rejected than mail-in ballots. Hamadeh shared that 2% of ballots cast on Election Day were rejected, compared to just 0.13% of mail-in ballots. These statistics beg the question, why was there such a discrepancy between mail-in ballots and those cast on Election Day?

Furthermore, the America First Policy Institute released a statement from Ken Blackwell, Chair of the Center for Election Integrity at the America First Policy Institute. Blackwell commented on Maricopa County’s recent report on their performance in the 2022 midterm election. He noted that Maricopa County election officials blamed printers for the issues that occurred on Election Day and stated that all legal ballots were counted and included in the official results.

However, Blackwell’s statement indicates that not all legal ballots were counted and included in the official results. There is testimonial evidence of people who did not have their votes counted. Additionally, the legal case brought by Arizona Attorney General candidate Abe Hamadeh reveals that then-Secretary of State Katie Hobbs knew that the recount showed discrepancies and failed to disclose those relevant facts to the court in a timely manner before the court made its ruling. This failure to do so is either gross incompetence or a cover-up, according to Blackwell.

The irregularities in Maricopa County’s ballot counting have raised concerns about the integrity of the election process. Located in Arizona, the county has been at the center of election controversies in recent years.

In 2020, the county’s election results were heavily scrutinized by President Donald Trump and his supporters, who alleged that widespread voter fraud had occurred.

Both Trump and Lake have been linked together by voting issues. They also align politically as well. Trump was even reportedly considering selecting her as his running mate for the 2024 election.
