Superstar Actress Reveals She Just Underwent Emergency Brain Surgery
Actress Gal Gadot has shared her experience of undergoing emergency brain surgery earlier this year, a life-altering event that unfolded during the final months of her pregnancy. The beloved star, known for her role as Wonder Woman, took to social media to recount the ordeal in an effort to raise awareness and inspire others.
Gadot, 38, revealed that in February, while eight months pregnant with her daughter, Ori, she began experiencing debilitating headaches that left her bedridden. An MRI revealed a massive blood clot in her brain, a diagnosis that led to an emergency hospital visit and surgery within hours.
“This year has been one of profound challenges and deep reflections,” Gadot wrote on X. “In the midst of a difficult year, all I wanted was to hold on and live. We rushed to the hospital, and within hours, I underwent emergency surgery.”
Gadot’s medical emergency stemmed from cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT), a rare but potentially fatal condition that affects approximately three in 100,000 pregnant women over 30. While rare, the actress stressed the importance of awareness and early diagnosis. During her recovery, Gadot gave birth to Ori, whose name, meaning “my light,” symbolizes the hope that sustained her through the ordeal. She credited the skilled medical team at Cedars-Sinai Hospital and her family’s unwavering support for her full recovery.

“Giving birth is a miracle, a testament to the strength and resilience of our bodies and spirits. But it also demands so much from us, reminding us to care for ourselves as fiercely as we care for others. As we celebrate Hanukkah, a holiday of light and miracles, I reflect on the personal miracle I was granted,” Gadot wrote.
“My daughter, Ori, is a constant reminder of resilience, hope, and the strength we carry within.” Gadot hopes that by pulling back the curtain on her private struggles, she can help others recognize the signs of CVT and take proactive steps for their well-being.
The Israeli actress, producer, and model gained worldwide recognition for her role as Wonder Woman in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). She began her career in modeling and was crowned Miss Israel in 2004. She later represented Israel in the Miss Universe competition.
Before entering Hollywood, Gadot served two years in the Israel Defense Forces as a combat instructor, an experience that shaped her disciplined work ethic. Her Hollywood debut came in “Fast & Furious” (2009), where she played Gisele Yashar, a role she reprised in subsequent films in the franchise. Gadot became a global icon after being cast as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” (2016), which was followed by the standalone “Wonder Woman” (2017) and other DC films like “Justice League” (2017) and “Wonder Woman 1984” (2020).
Beyond acting, Gadot has worked as a producer and has taken on roles in other notable films, including “Red Notice” (2021) and “Death on the Nile” (2022). She is married to Yaron Varsano, an Israeli real estate developer, and they have four children.
