Supreme Court Expected To Issue Ruling On Trump’s Ballot Eligibility On Monday

The Supreme Court is expected to issue a ruling on former President Donald Trump’s ballot eligibility on Monday, just a day before Colorado will hold its Republican presidential primary.

In an unusual Sunday update to the court’s schedule, the court indicated that a ruling would be coming on Monday, though the specifics of the case were not released. The New York Times has reported that the court will be ruling on Trump’s ballot eligibility, however, as the court heard oral arguments in Trump’s appeal of the Colorado ruling earlier this month.

Colorado is one of 15 states set to hold their presidential primary on Super Tuesday, while the state Republican party has asked the court to issue a ruling prior to the election.

A favorable ruling for Trump could put an end to leftist efforts to disqualify the former president from the ballot under the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, which bars public officers who have engaged in “insurrection or rebellion” from holding office. Trump has not been charged with, much less convicted of, inciting an “insurrection” on January 6, 2021.

Colorado became the first state to remove Trump from the ballot following a favorable ruling from the state’s Democrat-controlled Supreme Court. Since then, Democrat Secretary of State Shenna Bellows has removed Trump from the ballot in Maine, while a Chicago area judge recently disqualified the former president from Illinois’ primary ballot.

The court is widely expected to issue a ruling that favors Trump in the eligibility case. The nation’s highest court is also set to hear the former president’s argument on presidential immunity, which could torpedo Special Counsel Jack Smith’s January 6 indictment, at a later date.
