‘The View’ Hosts Turn On Joe Scarborough And Mika Brzezinski For Meeting With Trump
The hosts of ABC’s “The View” turned their fire on Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski after the MSNBC duo revealed they met with President Trump at Mar-a-Lago over the weekend. The meeting, described by Scarborough and Brzezinski as a chance to restart communication with the President-elect, was slammed by “The View’s” Sunny Hostin, who accused the pair of abandoning journalistic principles to cozy up to Trump.
On Monday’s episode of “The View,” Hostin didn’t hold back, calling out the “Morning Joe” hosts for what she claimed was pandering to Trump. “Look, the bottom line is that America needs a free press that is willing to speak truth to power, right now, more than ever,” Hostin said. “I think that we have to be very clear-eyed when we think about the President-elect and cover the President-elect. And I don’t think you need to sit down for 90 minutes at Mar-a-Lago and kiss his ring to be able to speak truth and to be able to cover a story.”
The meeting, which Brzezinski described as a way to discuss divisive issues and find “common ground,” came as a surprise to many, especially given the couple’s history of criticizing Trump. Hostin, however, questioned their motives. “Maybe they’re not journalists in the true sense,” Hostin speculated. “Maybe they’re saying that they’re opinion journalists, but we have to remember that Trump is the guy who ushered in the era of fake news. He is the guy who ushered in alternative facts.”
Hostin’s critique didn’t stop at Scarborough and Brzezinski. She took aim directly at Trump, suggesting that he’s exploiting the media for his own ends. “I think this President-elect, I hate to say it, would like nothing more than to have only Fox News cover him, would like nothing more than a state-sponsored media. And I don’t think he can be trusted in the way that other presidents can be trusted. This is an aberration.”

Scarborough and Brzezinski revealed their Mar-a-Lago meeting during Monday’s episode of “Morning Joe,” explaining that it marked their first conversation with Trump in seven years. Scarborough said they discussed topics such as abortion, immigration, and political retribution. Brzezinski added, “Five years of political warfare has deeply divided Washington and the country.”
“We had not spoken to President Trump since March of 2016 other than a personal call Joe made to President Trump on the morning after the attempt on his life in Butler, Pennsylvania. In this meeting he was cheerful, he was upbeat, he seemed… interested in finding common ground with Democrats on some of the most divisive issues. And for those asking why we would go speak with the president-elect during such fraught times, especially between us, I guess I would ask back, why wouldn’t we?”

“We have been as clear as we know how in expressing our deep concerns about President Trump’s words and actions in the coarsening of public debate. But for nearly eighty million Americans, election denialism, public trials, and January 6th were not as important as the issues that moved them to send Donald Trump back to the White House with their vote.”
If Scarborough and Brzezinski’s visit to Mar-a-Lago is any indication, the next four years could see more surprising alliances—and more division among the media elite.
