WATCH: Tim Walz Struggles To Load His Shotgun While Pheasant Hunting, Makes Dick Cheney Reference

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz — who has repeatedly portrayed himself as an avid hunter and responsible gun owner — appeared to have trouble with loading his firearm while traveling with reporters on a pheasant hunt over the weekend.

Walz, who was dressed in hunting attire, could seen struggling while attempting to load shells into his A400 Beretta. “It never fits quite right,” the Minnesota governor said while struggling to load the weapon in a video posted by CBS News reporter Shawna Mizelle. Walz, who has previously claimed he kept a shotgun in his car so he could go pheasant hunting after work, told reporters that he bought the Beretta when he was “shooting a-lot of trap.”

Walz travelled to a rural Minnesota area for the season opener in his home state on Saturday, just after the Harris-Walz Campaign attempted to win over gun owners by announcing the hunters, gun owners and anglers coalition. The new coalition will seek to underscore Harris’ support for “traditional activities,” CBS News reported.

Walz often portrays himself as a gun owner and avid hunter who supports “common sense” gun control, while Vice President Harris has been claiming she owns a Glock throughout the campaign cycle.

Mizelle, who accompanied Walz and his entourage on the pheasant hunt, reported that the trip lasted roughly three hours. Scott Rall, who often accompanies the governor on hunting trips, made the sole kill of the day. The carcass was not recovered, however, even though recovering the body of the birds was a top priority for the hunting party.

“There’s good days and there’s great days pheasant hunting,” Walz said when the day wrapped up.

According to Mizelle, the pheasants would oftentimes fly towards the press pool after springing out of the tall grass, prompting Walz to make jokes about former Vice President Dick Cheney’s infamous hunting accident. “Every vice president joke ever made was about to be made right there. And I was just like this,” Walz said as he motioned to taking his gun off of safety.
