Tim Walz’s State Still Too Close To Call Well Into Election Night

The race for Minnesota’s 10 electoral votes remains in limbo as results continue to trickle in late into election night, with the latest numbers showing Democrat Kamala Harris leading with 53.2% of the vote, compared to Republican Donald Trump’s 44.7%. Despite the lead, officials are hesitant to make any final calls as only 52% of the estimated vote has been reported, keeping both campaigns on edge.

Governor Tim Walz’s state has emerged as an unexpectedly close battleground, with rural and suburban precincts sharply divided. The forecast indicates that Harris holds an advantage, but the remaining uncounted votes could still impact the outcome. While Minnesota has leaned blue in recent elections, the narrow margin leaves some room for surprises.

The map of Minnesota shows a familiar urban-rural divide, with Harris strong in areas like Minneapolis and Rochester, while Trump leads in large portions of rural counties. The forecast still places the state as a “lean Democratic” win for Harris, but even a lean margin isn’t enough for Democrats to declare a decisive victory. With over 1.7 million votes counted and the remaining ballots likely to be pivotal, both sides are bracing for a long night.

For now, Minnesota’s status as a toss-up remains one of Election Night’s tightest races.

Harris currently holds 200 electoral votes, while Trump is ahead with 230. However, seven battleground states remain unresolved, and they hold the potential to swing the race in either direction. Other critical states like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Arizona are also still reporting votes. The remaining electoral map shows states like Colorado, Illinois, and several Northeast states leaning toward Harris, while most of the Midwest and South are strongly supporting Trump.

The live New York Times forecast meter indicates a “Likely Trump” outcome, giving him a 90% chance of victory and projecting a possible 301 electoral votes for him compared to Harris’s estimated 237. Although Harris is still within reach of the presidency, Trump’s path to victory seems stronger at this point. With Trump leading in several critical states and Harris focusing on urban strongholds, it could take days for a clear winner to emerge from this high-stakes election.
