Tom Brady Makes Rare Political Statement

Former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady waded into politics with a rare opinion about the state of America during the unveiling of a 12-foot statue in his likeness outside Gillette Stadium on Friday.

Brady’s statue was unveiled just in time for the Pats’ preseason opener against the Washington Commanders. It stands 12 feet tall from head to toe, but a raised fist brings the tip of the statue up to 17 feet.

“Tommy, you have not only etched your name in NFL history — you’ve etched it in all of our hearts,” New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft said about Brady, who was dressed in a long-sleeved blue button-down and aviator sunglasses.

On his lapel, Brady could be seen sporting a pin from the Foundation to Combat Antisemitism (FCAS), an organization founded in 2019 by Kraft “to stand up to Jewish hate and all hate by inspiring Americans to become active allies in the fight.”

It’s the first foray into politics by Brady since he distanced himself from President Donald Trump in 2017. Back then, a Make America Great Again hat was seen in his locker during an interview, kicking off speculation about whom he voted for in 2016.

Brady downplayed his past relationship with Trump, saying the two men hadn’t spoken in years. He told a local radio show that he is “not talking politics anymore” as a result of the minor scandal.

Despite his Catholic roots, Brady has been known to stand up in defense of Jewish friends like Kraft, whom he has called a “mentor” and father-life figure during his 23 seasons in the NFL.

He appeared alongside Snoop Dogg in a commercial promoting FCAS, which ran during the 2025 Super Bowl, according to the Daily Caller.

Since retiring in 2023, Brady has focused on his TB12 wellness brand and dealt with the fallout of his divorce from supermodel Gisele Bündchen. The two share custody of their three children.

Brady famously retired from play before coming back to win a record seventh Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has playfully hinted about coming out of retirement in time for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and suggested he would enjoy competing in the flag football category, the Tacoma News Tribune reported.

On his Instagram, Brady posted a highlight reel of his career statistics and jokingly asked, “50’s coming soon?” with a winking emoji.

Some of Brady’s contemporaries have been less shy about sharing their political opinions, or at least allowing their loved ones to do so on their behalf.

Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce is supportive of his girlfriend Taylor Swift’s simmering feud with Trump, while teammate Patrick Mahomes has a MAGA-loving mother and wife who continually drag him back into speculation about whether the quarterback is a Trump fan, too.
