Tom Hanks to host Joe Biden inauguration special
Actor Tom Hanks has been chosen to host an inauguration TV special for Joe Biden. The special will last 90 minutes and will include other famous stars such as Jon Bon Jovi, Justin Timberlake, Ant Clemons, and Demi Lovato, according to ABC News.
Tom Hanks and the star studded cast will kickoff their special during the prime time hour of 8:30 ET, January 20, on the night that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris transition into power after President Donald Trump’s term is over.
ABC reported that producers wanted to provide the audience a glimpse of the “American people’s resilience, heroism, and unified commitment to coming together as a nation to heal and rebuild.”
The special can be watched on live streaming video using platforms such as Twitch, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, and several others. Biden has suggested that people stay home and watch from there, rather than appearing in person, considering the pandemic situation.
If watching on television, the inauguration special can be “broadcast on television networks CBS, ABC, CNN, NBC and MSNBC” according to Reuters.
Tom Hanks gave a commencement speech last year for Wright State University’s class of 2020, as can be viewed below:
The Capitol is also inundated with a large number of new security measures such as perimeter fencing and thousands of National Guard troops. The increased security is a result of last weeks breach of the Capitol by pro-Trump supporters who allegedly wanted to stop the certification of Joe Biden’s electoral votes. The votes were still certified despite the disruption that took place resulting in many arrests and several people losing their lives.
