Top Fox Host Under Fire For Veiled Shot At Trump

Fox News host Brian Kilmeade is coming under fire online after urging his followers to reject President Donald Trump’s position on the Ukraine-Russia war.

The shocking turn of events saw a well-known, on-air personality for the largest conservative cable news network in the country pitted against the popular Republican president, now in his sixth week in office and who last week drew international headlines for reprimanding Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy directly to his face in front of the national media.

Writing on X, Kilmeade reminded his 900,000 followers that Russia started the war in 2022 and that its president Vladimir Putin is the aggressor–points that Trump has never denied–in a veiled shot at the President.

“Can we all remember @KremlinRussia_E is the bad guy- they invaded – they kidnap kids – Whatever happens – Ukraine can not lose – eastern. Europe will be next,” Kilmeade wrote, tagging Putin’s official presidential account.

Legacy Republicans have sided with Kilmeade against President Trump’s negotiations with Putin, which do not include Zelenskyy. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has previously stated that Ukraine will not gain back much of the eastern front captured by Russia.

After Trump paused all aid to Ukraine, the Kremlin on Tuesday called the decision “probably the best contribution to peace,” according to Newsweek.

Commentators responding to Kilmeade took the same hardline position, ridiculing him for the assertion that Russia is powerful enough to continue expanding into Europe.

“Europe will be next? So they couldn’t take Kyiv, but somehow they are going to conquer all of Europe? What you are saying contradicts all reality,” user Jay Hicks replied. Another asked facetiously, “How is Putin going to invade Eastern Europe when after 3 years he can’t take Ukraine?”

Indeed, Russia’s armed forces have been decimated by the war, forcing the autocratic regime to enlist prisoners and rely on North Korean troops to staff the front lines. Estimates of Russia’s losses vary but may be as high as half a million dead, U.S. officials stated in 2023.

Another user agreed that Kilmeade may have a point about future Russian aggression but that it shouldn’t be foisted on American taxpayers to fund an endless overseas war.

“All may be true, but not with my money anymore. Cmon Brian. You know that money isn’t going to the right places. Stop making excuses for more war,” Mike Sperrazza wrote.

“They need a peace agreement. Blindly continuing to fight and for the world to keep funding the war is going to lead to WWIII. Everyone needs to sit down and start negotiating a deal,” added a fourth.

The latter belief is the most common among Americans these days, according to recent polls.

Peace negotiations have become the default position for voters who want to see an end to the three-year conflict. Seventy-two percent now say they want Ukraine to negotiate peace with Russia rather than win the war, but a majority also oppose President Trump’s decision to pursue negotiations with Russia directly and without the involvement of Ukraine (59%).
