On Tuesday, former UN Ambassador and ex-South Carolina Governor, Nikki Haley, has announced her candidacy for the 2024 Presidential race, marking the second contender to officially rep the Republican primary.
The declaration was made through a video released early Tuesday morning, indicating that the race for the presidency is now in full swing. She took aim at other Republicans saying, “It’s time for a new generation of leadership – to rediscover fiscal responsibility, secure our border, and strengthen our country, our pride and our purpose.”
Now Trump is firing back. He released a statement on Wednesday titled “The Real Nikki Haley.”
The former president has criticized Nikki Haley for several reasons, including her admiration for Hillary Clinton and her support for Paul Ryan’s plan for entitlement reform, which could threaten Medicare and Social Security. He also accused her of being weak on immigration, not supporting a border wall, and not backing a transgender bathroom bill to protect children. Haley has also been criticized for supporting sending more American fighter planes to fuel the Ukraine-Russia war.
Trump, who launched his 2024 campaign with a lineup of South Carolina leaders, excluded Haley who was South Carolina’s former governor. Haley was expected to announce her own presidential run for a while now.
