BREAKING: Trump Immediately Moves To Shut Down Immigration App, Close Border Crossings
Just an hour into President Donald Trump’s second term in the White House, the new administration immediately took a number of steps to curtail illegal immigration. Would-be border crossers were informed that a Biden-era government app used to help illegal aliens enter the country and seek assistance was shut down at noon Eastern Time, while Border Patrol agents were mobilized to close border crossings, or ports of entry.
The controversial CBP One app went offline at 12 p.m. — the exact time Trump was sworn in as president — according to an announcement from Customs and Border Protection. Under the program, tens-of-thousands of migrants were able to flood into the country on a monthly basis. In total, more than 900,000 illegal aliens and asylum seekers have used the app to enter the United States since it was launched in January 2023.
Footage captured by a Washington Post reporter in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, showed migrants who had scheduled appointments through the CBP One app breaking down in tears breaking down in tears just outside the U.S. border when they learned their appointments had been cancelled. The group comprised just a small fraction of some 270,000 migrants estimated to be waiting on the Mexican side of the southern border who had been attempting to reach the United States before Trump took office, according to a report from CBS News.

The CBP One app allowed illegal aliens and asylum seekers in certain parts of Mexico to schedule a time to be processed at a legal port of entry with the United States. Those admitted into the U.S. under the system are allowed to apply for work permits, as well as asylum in immigration courts near their respective destinations.
Former President Biden introduced the program as part of an effort to “discourage illegal immigration,” though large percentages of individuals who apply for asylum do not meet internationally recognized requirements.
International asylum law requires applicants to apply in the first safe country they enter, though this is not the case on the southern border, as “asylum seekers” have been showing up from all over the world. More than 10,000,000 illegal aliens entered the country during the Biden presidency, a large number of them being “asylum seekers” from Africa, the Middle East, and dozens of additional countries that would require travel through dozens of international borders before reaching the United States.
Border Patrol officers also moved to temporarily close border crossings along the U.S. border with Mexico. The move comes just hours before President Trump is expected to declare a national emergency over the border crisis, which will give the federal government additional power to curb illegal immigration and divert necessary resources.
According to a report from KFOX 14, the port of entry in El Paso was “temporarily closed” on the day of the inauguration. Footage from the scene shows border personnel in riot gear blocking the entryway while a message blared over a loudspeaker stating, “crossing beyond this point will result in arrest, prosecution, and possible application of force.”
“All illegal entry will immediately be halted and we will begin the process of returning millions and millions of criminal aliens back to the places from which they came,” Trump said during his inaugural address from the Capitol Rotunda.
The president is also expected to reinstate a number of policies from his first term, including Remain in Mexico, which will require asylum seekers to wait outside the United States while their claims are processed. He will also be reinstitution Title 42, which allows the federal government to turn away migrants in order to curb the spread of infectious disease.
