Trump Makes Major Move Against Thomas Massie: ‘Weak And Pathetic’
President Trump on Monday threw his weight behind retired Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein in Kentucky’s GOP primary, praising the first-time candidate as he takes on outspoken Trump critic Rep. Thomas Massie.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump hailed Gallrein as “A WINNER WHO WILL NOT LET KENTUCKY DOWN!” and touted his military record.
“A Brave Combat Veteran, Ed knows the Wisdom and Courage required to Defend our Country, Support our Military/Veterans, and Ensure PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH,” Trump wrote, adding that Gallrein “happens to be central casting.”
Trump also highlighted Gallrein’s backing of the administration’s recent military intervention in Venezuela, calling him a “big fan” of the operation. The post included a photo of Trump and Gallrein together in the Oval Office.
The president urged Republicans to unite behind Gallrein, noting he had heard others were considering entering the race for Massie’s seat.
Donald Trump reserved his sharpest words for the incumbent, branding him “Third Rate Congressman Thomas Massie, a Weak and Pathetic RINO.”

Massie quickly fired back, turning the attack into a fundraising pitch.
“It happened again today! Why do I get attacked weekly?” Massie wrote on X, linking to his campaign donation page.
“Because I’m the only Republican who refuses to rubber stamp foreign aid, endless deficits, and unnecessary wars. I’m also exposing sex traffickers.”
Massie is facing a tough fight in the May 19 GOP primary in Kentucky’s solidly Republican 4th Congressional District. Also running are former nurse Nicole Lee Ethington and physician Robert Wells.
The libertarian-leaning congressman has repeatedly clashed with Trump and GOP leadership, including over foreign aid and U.S. military involvement overseas. He also spearheaded efforts to force the Justice Department to release records tied to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Most recently, Massie blasted the Trump administration’s operation in Venezuela that resulted in the capture of Nicolás Maduro and his wife.
“Wake up MAGA. VENEZUELA is not about drugs; it’s about OIL and REGIME CHANGE. This is not what we voted for,” Massie wrote Sunday on X.
Gallrein took the opposite view, applauding the mission in his own post and ripping Massie for breaking ranks.
The intervention, Gallrein wrote, “opens the door to a new chapter for the people of Venezuela.”
“Instead of standing with America’s military and the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect this country, Massie chose to side with Democrats and the Squad, criticizing our armed forces while excusing criminals, tolerating the intolerable, and defending the indefensible,” Gallrein said.
“That is not leadership, and it is not what the people of this district expect from a Republican.”
