Trump Praises ‘Great Victory’ After Senate Advances Big Beautiful Bill

President Donald Trump is hailing Saturday night’s marathon vote that advanced the Big Beautiful Bill to a final vote as a “great victory” that will introduce a number of the administration’s top policy goals.

With Vice President J.D. Vance on-hand to break a potential tie, the chamber voted 51-49 to advance the bill to a final vote. The hours-long process saw Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) switch his vote after initially voting “no,” while President Trump has vowed to fund a primary challenge to Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) over his opposition to the bill.

As for the rest of the conference, Trump praised Senate Republicans for working to get the legislation on Trump’s desk in time for the July 4 holiday. While the president has conceded that the exact deadline may be delayed by a day or two, the legislation is still on track to pass as early as this week if all goes well.

“Tonight we saw a GREAT VICTORY in the Senate with the ‘GREAT, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL,’ but, it wouldn’t have happened without the Fantastic Work of Senator Rick Scott, Senator Mike Lee, Senator Ron Johnson, and Senator Cynthia Lummis,” Trump posted on Truth Social after the bill passed.

Lee, Scott and Lummis were the last three Republican members to vote for the bill after more than three hours of open voting. The senators, all of whom had expressed concerns over lack of spending cuts in the weeks leading up to the vote, met with Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) and Vice President Vance for more than an hour to negotiate further.

Senator Johnson eventually joined the meeting and ended up switching his vote after voting against the measure earlier in the night.

“They, along with all of the other Republican Patriots who voted for the Bill, are people who truly love our Country!” Trump wrote. “As President of the USA, I am proud of them all, and look forward to working with them to GROW OUR ECONOMY, REDUCE WASTEFUL SPENDING, SECURE OUR BORDER, FIGHT FOR OUR MILITARY/VETS, ENSURE THAT OUR MEDICAID SYSTEM HELPS THOSE WHO TRULY NEED IT, PROTECT OUR SECOND AMENDMENT, AND SO MUCH MORE. GOD BLESS AMERICA &, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

The president further addressed the bill’s debate process while speaking with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo on Sunday.

Let’s see, we’re cutting Yeah, 1.7 trillion. Think of it. I think I just saw the number a little while ago $1.7 trillion. But we can grow our country so much more than that,” he said.
