During a lengthy press conference at the Trump Bedminster golf course on Thursday, former President Donald Trump referred to Kamala Harris’ plan to institute fixed-pricing on grocery chains and suppliers as “the Maduro plan.”
After weeks of refusal to release specific policy goals, the Kamala Harris Campaign finally released one on Wednesday with a plan to crack down on “corporate price gouging.” The Biden-Harris Administration have repeatedly blamed America’s inflation woes — which has routinely been named as a top concern among voters — on what they deem to be price gouging.
In addition to her push for the first-ever federal ban on price gouging by food corporations, she would also direct the Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general to investigate and levy penalties on food companies that violate the federal ban, a Harris Campaign spokesperson said.

Critics, including former President Trump, have compared the plan to those implemented by Communist-run planned economies in the Soviet Union or Venezuela, which led to massive shortages, rationing, and famines.
On Wednesday, former President Trump invited reporters to his Bedminster golf course for his second press conference in as many weeks. The Trump Campaign has repeatedly attacked Harris for refusing to sit for a set-down interview or hold a press conference, something she has refused to do for going on 25 days.
The Republican nominee centered the press conference on inflation and other rising costs that have consistently polled as a top issue for voters. “Grocery prices have skyrocketed. Cereals are up 26 percent. Bread is up 24 percent. Butter is up 37 percent. Baby formula is up 30 percent. Flour is up 38 percent. And eggs are up 46 percent. And many items are up at much higher rates than that,” Trump said while speaking in front of a selection of common household products.
“Now, Kamala is reportedly proposing communist price controls. She wants price controls. And if they worked, I’d go along with it too. But they don’t work. They actually have the exact opposite impact and effect. But it leads to food shortages, rationing, hunger, dramatically more inflation. Their Inflation Reduction Act, by the way, was a disaster. It’s what caused the inflation. Their Inflation Reduction Act was a con job,” the former president continued.
“I said, that’s going to cause tremendous inflation, and it did, among other things, like energy. She’s running on the Maduro plan. We call it the Maduro plan, like something straight out of Venezuela or the Soviet Union.”
