Trump’s Approval Rating Skyrockets In Top-Rated Pollster’s New Survey
President Donald Trump’s approval rating is back where it’s been for much of the year: hovering at 50 percent, according to a new national poll that suggests the president may have steadied himself after a brief fall slump.
An InsiderAdvantage survey of 800 likely voters, conducted Dec. 19-20, found Trump with a 50 percent approval rating, compared with 41 percent who disapprove and 9 percent who remain undecided. The poll has a 3.46 percentage-point margin of error and was conducted via a mix of text and cellphone interviews.
The latest numbers mark a rebound from November, when the same pollster showed Trump slipping to 44 percent approval after months at or above 50 percent. The turnaround comes after a busy stretch for the White House that included a nationally televised address by the president and the release of a new inflation report showing consumer prices continuing to cool.
The poll was weighted by age, race, gender, and political affiliation, consistent with InsiderAdvantage’s standard methodology.
Pollster Matt Towery said the timing of the survey appears to matter.
“This survey was conducted after Trump’s speech to the nation this week and after the release of the most recent CPI inflation report.”
“After having Trump at or above fifty percent approval for months, our November survey showed a dip to forty-four percent. But in recent days, his approval moved back into the fifty-percentile range,” Towery said. “The improvement came from numerous demographics including and most importantly independent voters. His support among younger voters rose, as did his support among female voters.”
“Interestingly, our recent job performance surveys show an unusually high number of undecided respondents. This tells us that some voters, particularly independents, remain unsure as to his accomplishments so far. This suggests he has work to do as he and the GOP enter the midterm season,” Towery explained.

Independents appear to be the key driver behind the rebound, a critical bloc as Republicans look ahead to next year’s midterm elections. Gains among younger voters and women also stand out, groups Democrats have traditionally relied on but where Trump has chipped away in recent cycles.
Still, the relatively high share of undecided voters underscores that Trump’s coalition is not fully locked in. Nearly one in 10 respondents said they were unsure how to rate the president’s performance, an unusually large figure for a modern presidential approval poll.
For Republicans, the numbers offer both reassurance and a warning. Trump has shown he can recover quickly after a rough patch, but the poll suggests some voters are still waiting to be convinced as the campaign season heats up.
For now, the president is back above water, sitting at 50 percent approval and reminding Democrats that writing him off too early has rarely worked.
