WATCH: Trump’s FCC Pick Details Plans To ‘Crush The Censorship Cartel’
Brendan Carr, Trump’s nominee to head up the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), discussed his plans to reign in biased media networks and social media giants as part of a mission to crush the “censorship cartel” during an appearance on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures.
Trump first nominated Carr to the FCC’s General Counsel in 2017. He currently serves as the senior Republican on the commission and has endorsed a number of plans to reign in biased use of public broadcasting licenses by major networks like ABC and CBS.
Upon being nominated for FCC chair earlier this month, Carr sent shockwaves through the media landscape when he vowed to “crush the censorship cartel.”

“What will you do to make sure that the playing field is level and that big tech doesn’t have the same grip on speech that it once did?” Carr was asked by Fox News host Jackie DeAngelis on Sunday.
“You know, for me, first thing is get with President Trump and his team and make sure I understand 100 percent what their agenda is after all he’s the one that was elected. It’s his cabinet, his administration to reflect his priorities,” the longtime FCC official responded.
“But as you noted, combatting big tech censorship is going to be one of the top priorities for me. You need to restore Americans right to free speech, and you mentioned Facebook and other companies, they’ve been part of a censorship cartel that has worked with advertisers, they’ve worked with government officials to censor the free speech rights of everyday Americans.”
“That’s got to end because censorship isn’t just about stopping words, it’s about stopping idea,” Carr continued.
“America is a country of founders, of people that have pushed boundaries, pushed frontiers, they’ve innovated, and when you silence speech you silence ideas. And we do unleash America’s prosperity again. That’s why you feel this vibe shifting in the country where people know President Trump is about to lead another great American comeback because this wet blanket of government control is going away and our economy is going to flourish again.”
Carr has long pointed to organized pressure campaigns from “media watchdog” groups like NewsGuard, which seek to pressure advertisers to leave right-leaning outlets and platforms.
“Facebook, Google, Apple, Microsoft & others have played central roles in the censorship cartel. The Orwellian named NewsGuard along with ‘fact checking’ groups & ad agencies helped enforce one-sided narratives,” Carr wrote in an X post earlier this year. “The censorship cartel must be dismantled.”
