A Turkey-based copper wire manufacturer announced Tuesday that it will be investing $34 million to establish a 91,000 square-foot facility that will manufacture superfine electrolytic oxygen-free (EOF) copper wire in Fairfield County, South Carolina.

Mega Metal, which employs more than 700 workers and distributes products to more than 30 countries, expects the new project to create 135 new jobs. Once the facility is fully operational, it is expected to to produce 55 million pounds of copper on an annual basis.

“This investment in Fairfield County is not only a manufacturing milestone — it is a reflection of our long-term commitment to the North American market,” said Mega Metal Inc. board chairman Cuneyt Turgut. “We are proud to grow alongside the state of South Carolina, contribute to the regional economy and build a foundation of industrial excellence.”

“Through this investment, Mega Metal is poised to become a key player in the U.S. supply chain, offering strategic support to high-demand industries across the continent,” Turgut added.

Operations are expected to commence in September, the company announced in a press release.

“This $34 million investment and 135 new jobs will bring opportunity to Fairfield County, boosting the region’s economy,” South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster said in a statement. “Manufacturing is thriving in South Carolina, and I’m confident Mega Metal will be well-positioned with our strong workforce.”

The state’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits related to the project.

The announcement comes just a day after heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) giant Carrier announced that it will be investing $1 billion in U.S. manufacturing over the next five years. All in all, the plan is expected to generate roughly 4,000 American jobs.

The company explained that the new investment will allow for expansion of existing facilities, as well as the construction of a new “state-of-the-art” facility in the United States. Carrier, which describes itself as a “global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions,” currently boasts the largest U.S.-based manufacturing capability in its industry.

The new facility will “support the production of highly engineered components for heat pumps and battery assemblies – both essential to Carrier’s Home Energy Management System (HEMS),” according to a press release.
